Alaska-to-L.A.'s Kate Earl appears to have left the sensitive singer/songwriter thing pretty much in the dust of late. But since most don't know her fine 2005 debut album Fate Is the Hunter , we guess we can understand why Earl's newer, slicker, beat-soaked sound - directed by manager Tommy Mottola ( aka , ex-Mr. Mariah Carey, ex-Sony Music Chief) - makes that play for the soft, comfort of the middle, particularly on first pop/soul single (and head- scratchingly gratuitous video) "Melody".
