For me, Grouper 's Dragging a Dead Deer Up a Hill was 2008's sleeper hit. Filled with hazy, broken melodies and unsettling effects, the record took me by storm in early December and hasn't let go since. Essentially a one-woman project led by Portland, Oregon, musician Liz Harris , Grouper's music is generally emotive, haunting, and lo-fi, chock full of decaying melodies and reverb-drenched beauty.
