"Do the mashed potatoe..." I enjoy putting on Girl Talk and just letting it ride. The DJs and producers that put mash-ups together clearly have talent and know how to, if nothing else, match beats flawlessly. And I do buy that old art can be re-appropriated to create new art and that "fair use" is a legitimate legal concept. The novelties of mash-ups are not lost on me; they can easily feel too cute for comfort. Still, every time I hear a well-done mash-up, I can't help but smile.
