Malcolm Holcombe knows a lot about perseverance. He's battled addictions, coped with professional disappointments, but he's channeled life's challenges into his music. And though many of the topics on his latest album, "For the Mission Baby," are dark indeed, it's hard to hide his joy in the growl of his vocals. Holcombe sounds like he's flipping off the devil as he performs the tunes, which feature old school blues mixed with country, folk and a hint of rock 'n' roll. They're the sound of redemption.
