The world has lost a talent so immeasurable many will continue without knowing what they have lost. Mexican-American Montreal based chanteuse Lhasa de Sela passed away this January 1st from breast cancer at the age of 37. One of my favorite singers ever, Lhasa's voice and musical styles were unusual and haunting; no one out there was like her, not by a long shot. Lhasa exploded onto the scene in 1997 with the release of her album La Llorona (composed in Spanish) which blended Eastern European gypsy folk musics with Mexican musical genres. No [...]
