After fighting a rare form of cancer for more than three years, Kate McGarrigle died in Montreal yesterday after falling into a coma, surrounded by family and friends. She recorded more than 10 albums with her sister Anna as the McGarrigle Sisters , whose debut album was chosen as the #1 record of the year in 1975 by the New York Times .
