
Tennis are the current name to drop, the project of husband/wife Patrick Riley and Alaina Moore, who went from landlocked Colorado to sail a yacht up the Atlantic seaboard, inspiring the songs on these singles (and on next month’s Fat Possum album). Their first single, ‘South Carolina’/ ‘Seafarer’, is ultra lo-fi 60s-sounding pop framed by chiming surf-guitar. It’s Moore’s voice that grips, though, redolent of Harriet Wheeler of the Sundays and with a similar emotional honesty that holds your attention.
