Bruce Springsteen famously described the opening snare and kick drum shot that opens "Like a Rolling Stone" as sounding like someone had "kicked open the door to your mind."  Like every other human being on the planet, I knew that Dylan's masterpiece was something powerfully special within seconds of the snare shot echoing around in my head.  Likewise, the first bass drop of Burial's "U Hurt Me" was the depth charge that finally sunk any remaining rockist posturing left in my critical arsenal.  Burial's self-titled debut was the kind of record like Astral Weeks or Kid A [...]
