
This bebop standard by Bird has been played to death by a lot of musicians ranging from Miles Davis, who is actually the composer of the tune, to Clifford Brown, Anthony Braxton, Lee Konitz and Joe Lovano among others, but I guess one of the best versions have always been Jaco's. “Donna Lee” was first recorded in May, 1947, by Charlie Parker’s All Stars which included Davis on trumpet, Bud Powell on piano, Tommy Potter on bass, and Max Roach on drums.
