R.E.M., c. 1983 Last Wednesday 21st September, R.E.M. announced that they are to split, after nearly 30 years of making music together. On their site, the band said, "To our Fans and Friends: As R.E.M., and as lifelong friends and co-conspirators, we have decided to call it a day as a band.
