In July 2010, director Amir Bar-Lev ( The Tillman Story ) announced that a biopic on iconic Grateful Dead frontman Jerry Garcia was in the works . However, the film was almost immediately put on the back burner due to stalled negotiations with Garcia's estate . While that flick remains in developmental limbo, music documentary filmmaker Malcolm Leo ( This Is Elvis , The Beach Boys: An American Band ) and Garcia's personal manager John Hartmann have announced a forthcoming feature-length documentary on Garcia's life and times, as  Deadline  points out.
