Tropical Tobacco is a one-man midi-pop act from Lisbon, Portugal whose chosen moniker couldn’t be more apt. Fusing island-inspired guitar and rhythm with the raspy voice of a someone who may well enjoy the occasional cigar, “Pineapple Express” swells from a languid beginning to a cacophony of harmonies. Driven by synth, jangling bells, and up-stroked guitar, “Pineapple Express” is a quaint piece of minor key pop that reaches beyond its sonic confines, and sounds more fully formed than the usual bedroom-based composition.
