Despite the disheartening song title, Seattle songwriter Mike Hadreas (aka Perfume Genius ) spends "Dark Parts" celebrating his mother, Carmen Hadreas-Boggs. Hadreas spoke of the song earlier this year, just before he released  Put Your Back In 2 It ,  saying, "I wanted to take something from her life that wasn't happy, and turn it in to something triumphant, to remind her how strong and beautiful and loved and important she is." That admiration and dedication is abundantly clear in the video.
