When we last checked in on Metric ’s new album, Synthetica , it was to explore the heavier, grittier sounds the band was playing with on “Youth Without Youth.” The latest track to appear from the upcoming record is the quicker, back-to-basics “Speed The Collapse.” Starting with a simple, menacing, high-pitched guitar riff, the song quickly adds on back-beated drums and Emily Haines’ smooth whisper. The pace of the tune never changes, but the scale of the song subtly yet steadily increases as additional pieces chime in and the volume slowly ratchets skyward. [...]
