Future Islands is a band of sonic and thematic contradictions - simultaneously futuristic and nostalgic, warm and calloused, bright and hopeless. It's the dichotomy between their signature fluttery 802s synth-pop sound and the unmistakable jagged cries of frontman Samuel Herring, who vocals sound about as raw as the emotions he's evoking, that creates strikes a perfect balance somewhere between the two extremes.
