SINGAPORE : I'm Waking Up To... Obedient Wives Club - Fragments The first release by 60s indie-pop distributors Happy Teardrop Music is the debut self-titled EP by Obedient Wives Club, and what a hit it's been with all physical copies selling out within a month. The band, cheekily named after a controversial Muslim organisation of the same name, plays a delightful blend of girly noise-pop - or what they helpfully term "Spectorgaze". [...]
Terius Nash introducing Casha – 'Silly' (chosen by Alan Reilly) So here we are at Valentine's Day - the most redundant and fickle of all make-believe celebrations - and romance lingers in the air like the putrid stench of a rotting relationship. A man very lucky in the fleshy side of things, The-Dream's career is a veritable chronicle of sexual conquests, our boy Terius Nash doesn't fare too well with anything long-term (he's just split from fellow song-writing mogul Christina Milian, yeah her from 'Dip It Low' fame.) Due to record company complications, Nash [...]

A few years ago I wrote a paper in which I discussed and subsequently dissected the current state of women in hip-hop. I eventually came to the conclusion that my fellow gender counteparts were about to take back what was rightfully theirs. The reasoning behind this you ask? Well that's easy, her name is Santigold. Santigold (formerly Santogold) released her debut album in 2008 and that shit was all kinds of cray. It blended everything from reggae to indie pop and featured some of the industries biggest names, including Diplo and Switch. She co-wrote and produced the entire [...]

According to Amazon Japan/ FACT magazine, James Iha is set to return with a solo album this March. The original Smashing Pumpkins guitarist - who went on to play guitar in A Perfect Circle, start a record label (Scratchie Records), produce records, remix a bunch of people and score various films - is set to release Look To The Sky on March 14th through EMI. The tracklisting is as follows: 1. Make Believe 2. Summer Days 3. To Who Knows [...]

This is my first full length album. I wrote all these songs in a period of about 8 months. I recorded/produced all these songs on my own at home. So as you listen to it, pretend like you're hanging out with a punk friend of yours from high school, listening to the album in his messy room, because thats exactly where the album was created. I feel like each song is unique and displays a different side of my personality. I hope that when anyone listens to this album they experience a sense of adventure and nostalgia. The lyrics in [...]

It's hard not to feel a bit of nostalgia when it comes to James Iha's solo debut, Let It Come Down . Put to tape toward the end of the Smashing Pumpkins' 1990s heyday, the decidedly un-SP set and intimate change of pace on Adore five months later seemed to foreshadow Iha's imminent departure. So, for those of us raised on grunge and steeped in an angsty high school rock obsession, the end of an era felt nigh. Given that I'll always have a soft spot for this unflinchingly saccharine collection of folk-pop, it comes as a [...]

As I rushed through the middle exhibit room of Atlanta's High Museum, having spent way too much time with Matisse, Mondrian, and Pollack - (quick note to my readers attending this exhibit: do not attempt to lick Picasso's Self Portrait, even if there is NO posted DO NOT TOUCH sign. They frown upon that apparently.) – Anyway, a quick ooh for Brancusi, a speedy sigh for Léger, and I rush, rush my way past wary art-bodyguards towards the Warhol room. There, a curator from New York and a handful of classmates stood waiting for me to [...]

Proof I Exist is the stage name of singer and multi-instrumentalist Paul Kulis a . His full-length Suburban Sci-Fi was put together piece-by-piece over the years. Starting out in 2033 he gradually applied new layers and instruments to his songs resulting in a surprisingly cohesive sound. He sounds like a full band, switching from pop to reggae to funk. A couple of songs were picked by college rock stations In Ohio, but the Cleveland base musician could break out of the cognoscenti niche. Trespassing in Heaven is a pop song that [...]

Glen Campbell lights up the Tokyo stage in 1975 Originally released only in Japan, this 54-minute set found Campbell entertaining with a tightly-paced set at Tokyo's Kosei Nenkin Hall in May 1975. The chart-topping run Campbell had started with 1967's "Gentle on My Mind" was slipping ever so slightly lower by the early '70s, as his television program ended in 1972. Campbell's albums started to edge out of the Top 10 and his singles out of the Top 20, but three days before this show, he released "Rhinestone Cowboy," and rode it [...]
The long-awaited follow-up to Santigold's 2008 debut, a new album called Master of My Make Believe, ss due for release this spring on Atlantic Records. The surreal and half-animated video for the new single from the record, "Big Mouth", was produced by Major Lazer's Switch and Buraka Som Sistema. The video was directed by Cody Critcheloe of Ssion. It showcases Santigold's slightly off kilter side with the bizarre animations and wierd dancing, but is some watch! Santigold - Big Mouth on MUZU . Check out other MUZU.TV [...]
Santigold has made a name for herself since 2008 by being a unique musical powerhouse who bounces between genres and is no stranger to experimentation. Her latest single – the first in several years under the Santigold moniker - "Big Mouth" is extremely fun to listen to and suggests that the time since recording her debut has been spent wisely. Tempos rise and fall, lyrics alternate sporadically between shouting and hushed whispers, and the entire thing rushes by like a chaotic tribal mantra, building in force and momentum. It's also rather weird; watery sound effects flow throughout and in the [...]

First Santigold and now this! It looks like it's gong to be a bass-tastic year. The queen of alternative rap is ready to release some new material from her fourth album! Conveniently ahead of her performance with Madonna at the Super Bowl, the track will be available to download on iTunes. M.I.A. was reported to be in the recording studio with Swizz Beatz, Polow Da Don, Cataracs, and Chris Brown in early 2011, hinting at new material for a possible fourth album. She posted a series of TwitPics in the middle of November 2011 revealing that she had recorded new songs in Chennai. [...]

An „Master of my Make-Believe" mitgewirkt haben Dave Sitek von TV [...]

With Switch and Buraka Som Sistema at the helm, 'Big Mouth' is a pulsating and electrifying track that captures Santi White's energy perfectly in its beats and joyous vocals.
