From dollerosa on Flickr: Rory Gallagher meeting with Bono and The Edge (early 80s photographer unknown.) It's suggested in the comments on that Flickr photo that this was from 1982 at Punchestown where both U2 and Rory played the festival that summer. I'm not sure I've ever seen that photo before. Unless it's in one of the U2 books and I just have blanked it out? Also: On Flickr - From January 19, 2010 : Rencontre de Christine LAGARDE et Bono Président de [...]
Carl Newman talks to Paste about the forthcoming New Pornographers album. In another song, the band tried to combine Black Sabbath's "War Pigs" with ABBA's "Waterloo" and Siouxsie and the Banshees' "Christine." If that sounds confusing, you're not the only one having trouble envisioning the new album's sound. "[Fellow songwriter] Dan Bejar wrote me something where he said he thought [Together] sounded like [2000's] Mass Romantic crossed with Challengers , and I'm like, I guess that might be true as well." Newman says before pausing. "Although, any combination [...]
Variety reports that the stage musical adaptation of Bret Easton Ellis's novel American Psycho is taking shape. Carl Newman talks to Paste about the forthcoming New Pornographers album. If that sounds confusing, you're not the only one having trouble envisioning the new album's sound. "[Fellow songwriter] Dan Bejar wrote me something where he [...]
This Saturday will mark the first semifinal of 2010's Melodifestival, so, as usual, I'm doing my Sunday-in-advance rundown of the artists and what we know about the songs (which isn't nearly as much as we'll know when rehearsals start or when song clips go up). Six of the eight artists are new to the contest and, while the proportion of new songwriters isn't as high, there are still quite a few debutantes in that regard as well. We do have three new-to-Melodifestivalen hosts, too: Måns Zelmerlöw, Christine Meltzer, and Dolph Lundgren. (To be honest, there's [...]
As if this song isn't amazing enough, Fleetwood Mac had to go ahead and put themselves in a situation that we just assumed they were experiencing on a day-to-day basis: excavating ruined instruments and painting Magritte replicas that come to life in a desert mirage. Alto temptress Christine McVie is prominently featured as the "woman looking through a telescope and sometimes through a mirror" and Stevie is just lounging off in the distance, probably pissed because Christine is getting all the attention for once. And to hammer in all of those allusions, this is from the album Mirage [...]

[via - WSJ ] "After nearly a year of review, the Justice Department on Monday set the conditions under which it will permit concert promoter Live Nation Inc. to merge with ticket-selling and artist-management powerhouse Ticketmaster Entertainment Inc., in a deal that could reshape the music industry. As laid out in a briefing in Washington, the conditions appeared relatively straightforward and shouldn't pose major obstacles, thereby clearing the way for the creation of single entity that will be able to manage artists, book them in venues which it owns and sell tickets to their concerts. It will [...]

Christine Kane: Mary Catherine's Ash Wednesday Journal Entry [ purchase ] Mary Catherine's Ash Wednesday Journal Entry is a live bonus track from Christine's Right Outta Nowhere CD - her introduction speaks of how the song was channeled through a 14-year-old Catholic girl... and when there is silence from Christine and then laughter from the audience, what's happening is that Christine has begun to mess up her hair to mimic a rumpled adolescent 'do, as well as take on the face [...]

Gordon Smart is in no doubt what the most important showbiz story is this morning : Christine Bleakley makes rude jibe to Jedward No! Surely not! Whoever thought we might have to respect Christine Bleakley? Apparently, though, this is no snickering matter. Gordon is cross: [B]ehind the pretty face there is a far less attractive side to the TV star. It's true. If you ripped her face off, there'd be a less-attractive mixture of muscles and blood and... oh, you were being metaphorical. Christine delivered a horribly [...]
For up-and-coming Hip-Hop artist J. Smith , gigs in his local suburb of Palo Hill, IL were hard to come by, and clubs in downtown Chicago were weary of booking an unfamiliar name. So Smith did what any new artist who's looking for attention would do: He recorded his first live performance and captured how it all came together in a five-part Youtube documentary titled DEMO . DEMO was transformed into a documentary by lead director/co-producer and local [...]

Cheryl Wheeler: Howl at the Moon [ purchase ] David Stocker: Penny the Moondog [ purchase ] Cheryl Wheeler is one of those artists who can have you laughing uproariously or crying inconsolably - this song , inspired by/written for James, her new-at-the-time border collie, has the latter effect on me... David Stocker was one of the finalists in our South Florida Folk Festival songwriting competition in 1998 [...]

It will be tough for any death metal tour to top this one: Nile/Immolation/Krisiun/Dreami ng Dead/Abigail Williams. (The tour starts tomorrow; see dates here and ticket info here .) Nile are supporting the fantastic Those Whom the Gods Detest (review here ). Immolation have Majesty [...]
