As Valentine's Day is less than a week away G-Shock is dropping two special V-Day watches to get your special someone. Here is what Casio had to say about the G-Shock G-Lide and Mini. "The striking contrast created by the white patent finish and pronounced hot pink LCDs make the Precious White His & Hers watches stylishly practical Valentine's Day gifts. With the legendary hallmarks of G-Shock water and shock resistance, the GLS5500P-7 and GMN550-7D will withstand the highs and lows of any relationship. [...]

This weekend, an obscure sporting event known as the Super Balls airs, and people are like so excited. I asked this one guy in my building if he had bought his wife a Super Ball present yet, and he was like, "I'm so excited." A big deal on Super Ball Sunday Night is the commercials, which is weird, since every other day of the year, everyone DVRs through all their commercials. Clearly Super Balls Sunday Night is a holiday made up by TV advertisers. One of the big commercials has already been released; it's for Gatorade, and its narrated by [...]
It seems like every day there's a new story of some band that is covering some old band's album. Today that news involves Joy Division, Xiu Xiu and Deerhoof, as the two latter groups are getting together to cover the former's Unknown Pleasures in full at this year's Donaufestival, an Austrian festival that runs April 28-May 8. Xiu Xiu and Deerhoof's performance goes down on the 29th. Beck, do you see what you've done here?

I thought I'd mix things up and get my best albums of the year 2009 out first then work backwards through what I listened to (According to Last.fm). I must say this was an amazing year for music and I plead with my friends who "cannot find anything new to listen to" that they just need to listen around, become an ear slut, do what you have to do to get into all this great music. Partly, this year for me has been a good one in music because I've been sitting at the computer so much after work [...]

The Durutti Column's latest record serves as a tribute to the late, great Tony Wilson, co-founder of Factory Records and major beacon of support for the band over the years. As the story goes, The Durutti Column were the first band signed to Factory in 1978, and Wilson provided the band with management and guidance throughout their career. As the title implies, this album is a massive undertaking, clocking in at 18 tracks, many of which exceed the seven-minute mark. The album begins with a looped sample of producer Martin Hannett (Joy Division, Happy Mondays, Magazine) asking, "Is this [...]

So earlier in the week we had Visage and now Heaven 17. How eighties am I going? This is totally brilliant though, Elly delivers a vocal that is very nearly as stunning as Carol Kenyon's original! After delving a little deeper I found that Carol provided vocals for such diverse projects as Malcom Mclaren's 'Madame Butterfly' through to Pink Floyd's The Division bell and Pet Shop Boys Behaviour . Sometimes it's strange, the tangents that a simple short post can take you off on! [...]

In the Book Notes series, authors create and discuss a music playlist that relates in some way to their recently published book. In Cassette From My Ex , noted musicians and writers (including Rick Moody, Magnetic Fields' Claudia Gonson, and others) share their personal cassette mix tapes, along with the story behind them. Often adorned with photos of the cassette tapes and labels, these stories are snapshots of love and friendship, time capsules of a personal past. I was surprised at how many memories these stories, playlists, and even the photos [...]

Because it's unavoidable, here's my list of favorite albums from 2009: Wye Oak - The Knot : There is hardly a release I listened to more than this one. It still has its way with my emotions to this day, capable of building me up and tearing me down all in one single listen. Double Dagger - More : Really smashed all my expectations for their Thrill Jockey debut. At times startling by accompanying [...]
I've still got a bunch of work to do today dotting my i's and crossing my t's, so big ups to new contributor Stefan Nilsson for handling today's mp3 post: As previously reported , I'm from Barcelona have undertaken an ambitious project where all 27 of their members have written one song each for their new album. The songs can be found on a triple vinyl (available to buy here ) that is released today; they're also giving away the songs for free on their website , one per day [...]

Proto-industrial pioneer, and one of the architects of the DIY revolution in UK synth music, Robert Rental is perhaps best known for his pair of collaborations with other artists. With Thomas Leer, whose electro funk mash ups figure pominently in any collection of minimal synth classics, he released the brooding, epochal album, The Bridge, for Throbbing Gristle's Industrial Records in 1979. And with Daniel Miller, the man who signed everyone from Fad Gadget to Depeche Mode to his fledgling Mute label, he recorded a shambolic but strangely inspired live set at the West Runton Pavilion on March 6, 1980. [...]

I consider myself a nostalgic person, but not overly so or is it overly such? Regardless, I thoroughly enjoy music from previous generations & probably even more than most of the music coming out today. I'm that way with a lot of things though, movies, baseball, radio, etc. Not everything is worse now that it was say 20 years ago, however, video games have dramatically improved, basketball & football are so much more exciting & television has climbed to heights many never thought it would with the emergence of edgy cable programming. One of the things that I [...]
Hailing from Liverpool, Screaming Lights is the indie rock quartet of Alan Breen (bass), James Connor (drums), Max Goldberg (lead guitar, synth) and James Treadell (vocals, guitar, synth, piano, lyrics). The band bears the same relation to White Lies, Repeater and Red Light Company as those new bands do to Editors , as they did to Interpol , as those Americans did to Joy Division , The Chameleons and the rest of the post-punk long-overcoat brigade of the early '80s. In that sense, if you can live with the [...]
