HOW DID I MISS THIS? Back in February, a devastating earthquake hit Haiti (this is not the part I didn't know, thank you). What I missed, however, was the compilation, Hear to Help , put together by FILTER and American Eagle to raise money for Oxfam America (to provide relief for the 'quake victims) that featured new music from Grizzly Bear, Beck, and JULIAN MOTHERFLIPPIN' CASABLANCAS. As you may know, I have a bit of a man-crush on Julian . After seeing a whole set three songs live back in January, I [...]
There's no telling when the next, as-of-yet untitled, Strokes album will see the light of day. In recent interviews, The Strokes lead singer turned solo artist Julian Casablancas admitted that the recording process is behind schedule. The Strokes' fourth album had previously been predicted for release in January of 2011, but now Casablancas predicts that the album may not be ready until March. The news shouldn't concern longtime Strokes fans too much when considering that rumors around the newly reunited band previously reported that members seemed to be at odds, going so far as to claim that [...]
Filed under: Video , Exclusive As the mastermind behind the Strokes , Julian Casablancas captured the zeitgeist of the early 2000s and helped define a generation of hip guitar-based bands who worshipped at the altar of the Velvet Underground while bringing the sonic grit of Television to the masses. Three albums and nearly ten years later, Casablancas retains that same aloof charm he displayed in the Strokes' heyday. Having recently released his first solo album, the electro and country-infused 'Phrazes for the [...]

Wednesday night was a busy one for the ATH crew in Austin, TX. We had a few folks over at the White Rabbits/Here We Go Magic show, a couple at the Bonobo show, and a even one or two over at Adi's indie karaoke shindig. I however couldn't pass up the chance to see one of the great front men of the past decade, Mr. Julian Casablancas. Follow the jump for a quick review and more photos. Being as the show started so early (8pm), we just barely made it into La Zona Rosa [...]
Filed under: Concerts and Tours , News With the recent announcements of the Strokes headlining the Isle of Wight festival in June, Lollapalooza in August and recording a fourth record , they're making a much delayed comeback. But, seemingly capitalizing on the fervor, Strokes lead singer Julian Casablancas gave fans what they wanted and played two Strokes songs at the Vic Theatre in Chicago Tuesday night. Touring in support of his debut solo album, last year's 'Phrazes for the [...]
Though he'll be here in a few months, frontman Julian Casablancas stopped by Chicago last night amidst his solo tour. Still in support of last year's vastly underrated Phrazes for the Young , the aging-yet-youthful New York crooner entertained a well-stocked crowd at the always popular Vic Theatre. Despite being a Tuesday night, and after a holiday weekend no less, plenty of Chicagoans treated the gig as a mid-week dance party, keeping the nearby bar warm and their hands cool with cup after cup of icy beer. Quite surprising for an all-ages show. [...]
More Photos Here The Strokes frontman, Julian Casablancas brought his solo project to Sayerville's Starland Ballroom last night, March 30th. The group opened up with "Ludlow Street" one of the strongest tracks off his solo debut Phrazes for the Young . Julian & Co. then proceeded to flawlessly plow through the better half of his solo album and right into back to back Strokes "covers". The highlight of the night defintiely had to be when the band played the records 1st single "11th Dimension" then into "Hard to Explain" and into [...]

The Strokes plan secret London show tomorrow?
It looks as if the Strokes will make their live comeback at Dingwalls in Camden tomorrow night. Their twitter feed has posted a couple of bizarre visual clues, with the word Venison spelled out in their logo and a photo of a river lock, with the phrase 'why won't you come over here?' Dingwalls has the band Venison listed for tomorrow night and is, of course, right next to Camden Lock. State's London readers should probably get themselves on the case pronto, but please don't blame us if Venison turn out to be an experimental jazz metal combo [...]
Julian Casablancas Did an Acoustic Set at Viva Radio Two Months Ago :-/
Judging by the number of views this baby has racked up, we're comfortable saying we're not the only ones who missed it when it went live in early April. But we apologize for not posting earlier anyway. Julian Casablancas stopped by Brooklyn's Viva Radio and in addition to giving a quick interview, played a "bonus track" that wasn't included on Phrazes For The Young . It is entitled "Old Hollywood" and it is a good kind of bummer.
Julian Casablancas covers Bruce Springsteen in the dark, possibly dances
Julian Casablancas covered Bruce Springsteen's "Dancing In The Dark" during a show the other night, and it was caught on video. Well, the audio was. You can't see shit. There's something about that crossover of poignancy and fist-pumping exhilaration that makes it a perfect song for Jules to cover, I think - it's an emotional melange not too many light years away from what you'll find on his splendid album of last year, Phrazes For The Young . Listen to "Out Of The Blue" for further evidence. [via [...]
Video: Har Mar Superstar covers "Out Of The Blue" by Julian Casablancas
I had the pleasure of seeing Julian Casablancas up-close and personal live in the Mainroom earlier this month. The frontman for one of my favorite [inter]national bands has been on tour for his debut solo album Phrazes For The Young before The Strokes inevitably regroup to finish recording their next album, which I am highly [...]

It's All Good With The Hood Internt
Let's face it, I'm a sucker for all things Hood Internet and/or Gucci Mane. Which is why I was so thrilled to see that the Chicago mashup duo opted to call upon my favorite dirty south rapper not once, but twice. In the first instance sees Gucci's party anthem "Wasted" aka the jam that launched a million FB status updates mixed with Norwegian producer Hans-Peter Lindtrom that I'm admittedly not all that familiar with. Either way it's a nice change of pace from the original, and carries enough weight to handle Mr. Mane's grimy rhymes. And it does [...]
