Photo by Joe Mangat . Well, after a trip up to Portland, Oregon and a bout with a still-lingering illness, I'm finally back up in this. Perfect timing too, because there's a lot goin' on right now. Most notably, you can now stream a song from the most exciting effort still waiting to see an official release this year - Animal Collective 's Fall Be Kind . "Graze" opens this stunning EP with a languid interplay of sounds and soaring vocal trade-off between Avey Tare and Panda Bear before transforming into [...]

"I think even people who've hated everything we've ever made before could absolutely love this record," says Tom Findlay of UK dance-pop duo Groove Armada , and damn if he doesn't seem to be right. Findlay and and his cohort Andy Cato have been banging out a blend of house, downtempo, big-beat, and pop for a dozen years now, but on their new album, Black Light , due out February 23rd, they turn the beat around in a bold new way. Inspired by the spirit of the Lovebox festival they curate in London each year, which [...]

It was solo prodigies galore at night 3 with Marina & The Diamonds + Wolf Gang, Clock Opera, and a special performance by Dragonette. First up (due to a 'scheduling snafu') was Dragonette , who you might remember I'm not a huge fan of. Suffice to say that I was proved wrong in some respects after seeing them live, especially due to Dragonette 's bass, keyboard and laptop player slash backing vocalist [...]
![Shark Attack, Shooting Judas Album [Review]](http://cache.elbo.ws/posts/2138708_lg.jpg)
Shooting Judas by Shark Attack Shooting Judas was released in June of 2009 and nearly five months later tracks are still being remixed and making headway on the scene. The first track, 'Creation ex Nihilo' is the perfect opening track. 'Northern City Riot' is a perfect reflection of helplessness and fear with it's high pitched and violent screech..but so much maturity with the breaks placed in between. One moment its rough and mean and then we are catching our breaths again! I slowly feel the waters turning and by the time, 'This Way, I know a [...]
Welcome to day two of my favorite albums of the aughts. I should remind everyone that these are MY favorite albums of the past decade, which coincidentally means they might not be the same as yours. Compiling this list was an arduous task and honestly it could be different every single day depending on my mood. It just so happens that this is the final product of months of work and is what goes out on the internets for everyone to see. Anyways I hope you enjoy and maybe even stumble upon something you haven't heard in awhile. [...]

top photo: Delaney Allen Summer 2010: mark my words, you'll be hearing a lot of this. And Gypsy and the Cat are another reason why I think MGMT recorded something really significant in 'Oracular Spectacular', by giving way to Empire of the Sun and now Jona Vark, they're enlightened us to some of the most cuddly, sun-tinged pop songs for some time. 'Jona Vark' is all about the chorus, a chorus which lyrically features merely the song title - " her name is Joo-na-ha, Jona Vark ". [...]

So the pretty lil event site Winter is the New Summer that Devin and I have been working on has officially launched in full! Whoo! Let's have a 750ml salute to that! We did a soft launch in October, then last week we introduced the poster concept and from this week on until the end of winter we will have a different member of the Portland scene acting as a Poster Boy or Poster Girl, holding up our event picks of the week, this week being Rocky formerly of the Hush and currently of [...]

Toro y Moi "Blessa" From Causers of This Car Park Records (2009) Listen to "Blessa" MP3 Toro y Moi is the solo project of The Heist and The Accomplice lead singer Chaz Bundick. "Blessa", off his album Causers of This , is a unique sound that has elements of TV On The Radio, MGMT and crate robbers like Blockhead and R2DJ, but takes its own path. There is [...]

At the cool little space known as Public Assembly, Babelgum and the Ice Cream Man decided to throw a party last night (Nov. 17th). Not only was there an open bar and free ice cream to celebrate the completion of the Ice Cream Man's journey across America and the music festival scene , but musical acts Kurt Vile and Times New Viking were set to entertain the assembled mass. Not bad for a Tuesday. The space was clamoring, the alcohol was flowing, and clusters of chatty people seemed ready for some [...]
Orbital are one of those outfits that are a great many things to a lot of different people; ambient music with personality for those with an ear for pop. Sufficiently cerebral noodlings that appeal to those with a penchant for classical music. Punk-pop for dedicated electro fans. Anthemic, Kraftwerk-infused techno that indie kids can get down with. Tonight, the Brothers Hartnoll's wide palette of sounds and influences has drawn out a curious crowd of clubbers, revellers, hipsters and the plain nostalgic. By turns touching, bracing, energetic and joyous, Orbital can easily be relied to put on a [...]
Back before MGMT ever had MGMT they were just some college hipsters at Wesleyan. This was before hipsters became a negative term, before "Kids" was a classic indie song, and before the "change" of Obama. "This Must Be The Place," is by far one of my favorite Talking Heads song. During a summer between my college years, I worked at an Irish pub with two Irish female immigrants, one of which was Emma. She was small, rambunctious and a hell of a mean drunk at times. Whenever she was acting shitty,... Read more at www.SFCritic.com

Qualche sorpresa. Un gruppo inglese (i Libertines ) è stato scalzato dal podio da [...]
Music brag NME has crowned The Strokes' debut album 'This is It' as the best album of the decade. As the naughties come to a close NME (and a long list of music experts) voted for what they thought are the best 100 albums of the decade. With the concluding list spanning artists from Jay-Z to Johnny Cash and a few unexpected ones in between. The New York rockers beat off the likes of Primal Scream's 'XTRMNR' and 'Up The Bracket' by The Libertines to take the holy grail. Mike Skinner must be [...]
