Dipped in Dollars is proud to present our February Mix of the Month , where we ask an up-and-coming artist to present us with a mix/mixtape that will allow us to gain better perspective of their process/show us what we can expect to hear from them in the future. Indian Summer is a little mix I made featuring some of my favorite songs we've been throwing out over these last few months. It doesn't feature any music you'll hear on the upcoming Comanche LP, but it's a solid [...]

(Photo by Katy Pritchet) I recently had the pleasure of sitting down with the frontman from an up and coming band residing right here in Los Angeles, The Delta Mirror . Craig Gordon, David Bolt, and Karrie K., known as The Delta Mirror, will be playing at The Echo later this month, on February 24th, along with Jesus Makes The Shotgun Sound, Oliver Future, and Queen Kwong. More information about their show can be found at The Echo website. Their album, "Machines That Listen", will be released on March 19th, [...]
Lefse Records , the place that brought us the likes of Neon Indian, Phaseone, and Tape Deck Mountain, have begun an offshoot label Waaga Records . To celebrate this new beginning they have offered a free digital compilation containing many of their fine artists. Among them are Baltimore's own Soft Cat (who have and album on the way!!!) and...

Who : Delta Mirror from Los Angeles. What : New signee to Lefse Records ( Neon Indian , Phaseone ), here's LA's gothtronic Delta Mirror with a shoegazy psych trip off the upcoming release of 'Machines That Listen' in March. Merging brooding vocals (reminding me of Interpol 's Paul Banks) with boom bap production, the debut sounds haunting, full of ear-tickling electronics, psych layers, and foreboding storytelling. Keeps your eyes peeled for spring touring, with a stop at SXSW. Song : He Was [...]

All American males from 15-35 are probably well acquainted with Adult Swim. They're known for the irreverent adult-oriented cartoons (including me personal favorite Metalocalypse), however, they have recently released a very interesting CD titled "ATL Remix". The concept of the CD was to take some of the best rap/hip-hop artists from Atlanta (B.o.B., Gucci Mane, Young Jeezy, Lil' Jon, OJ Da Juiceman, etc.) and get their songs remixed by some of the best artists the hipster world has to offer (HEALTH, Drums of Death, Memory Tapes, Dam-Funk, PHASEONE, etc). As you might suspect, the overall CD is hit [...]
And away we go.... A Decade of Flying Lotus....mixed by The Gaslamp Killer This is probably the year that both GLK and Flying Lotus are going to explode into the public consciousness. For the past couple years they have both been steadily building momentum in underground circles. What better way to welcome this new year than with a look back at Flying Lotus' formative years. Lots of unreleased bits and bobs, as well as a healthy dose of his Adult Swim bumpers. DOWNLOAD | INFO [...]

It's been a few months since I threw the spotlight on DJ Hipnotikk , and he just passed over this fresh mix of his, which features his own productions alongside some choice blends from cats like DJ Nappy . You know the score... DOWNLOAD Tracklist: Smitty Vs. Burial – Lil Haiti [Nappy Dubstep Mix] Kollosus – Breakin Bread [Phaseone Remix] DJ Hipnotikk – Still Tippin Behind Closed Doors (Mike Jones Vs. Kromestar) DJ Hipnotikk – What It Do (Lil [...]

Now that 2009 is well and truly done for; we're gonna have a look back at the best bands of the year in a top 10 format which some of you may be familiar with. Looking at the list as a whole, I'm surprised I couldn't fit Grizzly Bear or Fuck Buttons in there but I stand by that. Not much rap or hip/hop in this list, maybe I haven't been searching enough because I couldn't find any better than DJ Quik and Kurupt (yes, I do know Raekwon released an album). [...]

While I I've already revealed my favorite album of 2009 (which includes Pollination's free IO EP ), I thought I might share some of the better albums released by artists and labels free of charge. This is the Year in Free Albums. 1. Surface by RENMINBI Listen: Portland (mp3) 2. Mixtape by The Years Listen: [...]

In the most promising development since a woodblock printing revival (and brief epidemic of St. Vitus Dance) swept Germany in the 1440's, print publications are slowly starting to reemerge from the amoebic stew of the Internet. Well, at least two. One of them is this . You probably have heard about it from your friends that regularly iChat. The other is Poptimist, published by Blink Media, which has also entered the lucrative world of print journalism (as I type this, I recline comfortably in my recliner chair made of skinned seal). The pocket-sized music mag recently published [...]

Well hello there.. welcome back. In 2007, the first year of this here blog, I think I neglected to come up with a list of my favorite albums of that year. But it was no secret that my favorite, from about July of that year, was Yeasayer's All Hour Cymbals . Animal Collective's strong [...]

We've reached week 6 of Winter is the New Summer's page-filling-photo glory and to celebrate I've crafted another podcast! After Arya Imig and local dance delight Jeffrey Jerusalem made exclusive podcasts and mixes the past few weeks for the site, I've stepped back up to the pitch with this: " Ambling Alp" - Yeasayer [...]
The publication chose: 3. Elvis Perkins In Dearland - Elvis Perkins In Dearland 2. Animal Collective - Merriweather Post Pavilion 1. The Avett Brothers - I & Love & You View the full rundown here. It's nearly the end of the year, the decade in fact, and that means one thing - it's time for Some Of It Was True! to try and name next year's big things. There's one rule: I've limited myself to acts with 5,000 friends or less on MySpace - no Marina & The Diamonds for me. It's more exciting for you, and more exciting for me. Here are my 10, then: Moonlight Bride I'm not sure which came first, the hairs on the back of my neck or this fourpiece from Chattanooga, Tennessee [...]

If there is any lesson I've taken away from my top remixes of '09, it's that someone on the internet will always be better at mixing your music. This was a dangerous year in terms of producers finding credibility through remixing, and I wonder where things will be by this time next year. Hope you enjoy these remixes as much as I have. 10. Nosaj Thing [Flying Lotus - Camel] Flying Lotus holds a very special place in my heart. This remix is perfect. Made even more perfect [...]

juuusssttt kiddin' I'll admit I was a stubborn bastard this year when it came to listening to new jams. I like to let things hit me when the mood strikes rather than forced active listening, but when that fucks me over are times like these when I still haven't listened to Veckatimest all the way through... it'll prob be my favorite album of 2010. In case my opinion/taste/thoughts mean anything and if I really am "all the things that are outside of me" to quote Animal Collective, then these are the records that have [...]

Wu-Tang's grimiest sword Raekwon celebrates the stunning victory of his comeback street opus Only Built 4 Cuban Link II , with a year end toss-off "Happy New Year", a trippy remix by Phaseone and premiers "Meth Vs. Chef Pt. II" off upcoming Raekwon, MethodMan & Ghostface project, Wu-Massacre. Rae also in talks to sign Capone N' Noreaga to his Icewater imprint and there's talk of a collabo jump with OG Kool G. Rap, now that's whats up. Peace to NR & ATF Raekwon - "Happy New Years" -mp3 [...]

As you may already know, Adult Swim has a long history of releasing rad mixtapes. It all started with the Occult Hymn EP by Danger Doom . Then came: Definitive Swim (Def Jux themed), Warm And Scratchy (indie rock themed), Ghostly Swim (Ghostly Int'l themed), and most recently African Swim (African hip hop themed). Now Adult Swim has a new mixtape entitled ATL RMX , which teams [...]
