No real surprises to report. Beyoncé earned a bundle of Grammys. Lady Gaga delivered a rousing - and surprisingly uncontroversial - duet with Elton John . Taylor Swift also cleaned up, though her number with Stevie Nicks sounded a tad off (as did Slash's guitar solo during T-Pain's performance). Best prop goes to Best Comedy Album winner Steven Colbert , who pulled an iPad out of his jacket during his monologue. And kudos to Kings of Leon for admitting they were a tad drunk while accepting the Grammy [...]

Stockholm, Sweden is home for North American dreamy guitar siblings Sarah Parthemore and Jacob Donald Snavely aka Dag för Dag who will release their debut album Boo next month. They have already released a 6-track EP entitled Shooting from the Shadows on Saddle Creek last year. Half the album was produced by Richard Swift with the other half by Johannes Berglund. Check out two tracks from Boo and a couple of videos below. MP3: Dag för Dag - Animal [...]

Laura Burhenn 's sleek and smooth vocals and Richard Swift 's retro warmth balance nicely in this ageless and timeless eye-rolling tune, " Numbers Don't Lie ." Check out more of The Mynabirds here . And just sayin - How can they only have 410 plays on their MySpace and only 155 Friends? What is up with people's music taste these days? Looking forward to more from this group. Perhaps, we caught them on the mere break of their career.. Enjoy. MP3: " Numbers Don't [...]
...following the demise of DC outift Georgie James, Laura Burhenn set off to the Pacific Northwest to rethink her musical trajectory. Setting to work with Richard Swift at the helm and redubbed The Mynabirds [after the serendipitous discovery of the near-mythical Neil Young/Rick James outfit, The Mynah Birds], Burhenn's goal of creating "a record that [...]

I'll be honest, I never got into Georgie James when they were the bee's knees a few years ago. But I can say I am into former Georgie member Laura Burhenn. She's releasing a Zen-inspired debut album called "What We Lose In The Fire We Gain In The Flood" in April. The Richard Swift produced album s a mix of Motown and Neil Young. Listen: The Mynabirds ∞ Numbers Don't Lie Leaked tracks [...]
The Mynabirds - "Numbers Don't Lie" Laura Burhenn is the kind of soul singer who sounds best when she's not belting it out, but instead keeping the contours of a great melody sleek and smooth. Her tone in "Numbers Don't Lie" is sweet yet just a bit salty, and forthright enough to make it clear that her deferential attitude on the chorus comes with a lot of eye-rolling. The tune is a minor marvel, and the production by Richard Swift hits his usual balance of retro warmth and modern textures, which keeps the piece from [...]

[mp3] The Myrnabirds: "Numbers Don't Lie" When Saddle Creek signs we listen. Next up, The Mynabirds . While we've only heard the above song from Georgie James' singer Laura Burhenn's new solo record What We Lose In The Fire We Gain In The Flood (April 27th) , the press release has sufficiently whet our appetite with references to Nina Simone and Cat Power. Burhenn's album promises soulful horn arrangements, husky vocals, honest lyrics and quality songwriting (she enlisted the help of ace writer/producer Richard Swift). [...]

Some of you may have noticed that we added a new feature to the site recently in the form of a page that allows readers to submit their own tracks for review. We added this in hopes of uncovering even more new music for our readers that we may not have otherwise found through our more traditional means of acquiring tunes. Over the last few weeks we have been very pleasantly surprised by the amount and (in most cases, at least) quality of tracks that have been shuffling in via our new toy. A few of them have already been [...]

Laura Burnhenn, formerly of Saddle Creek indie-pop outfit Georgie James, now has a new recording project called The Mynabirds and a new album in the works. The band's debut, What We Lose In The Fire We Gain In The Flood , was produced by Richard Swift and will see release in late April, but for now you can hear the first free and legally released mp3 - the promising, gospel/soul-tinged "Numbers Don't Lie". Remember Georgie James ? Sadly they are no more, but! Laura Burhenn - half of the duo - is back as a solo artist on Saddle Creek with her new project The Mynabirds . Not to be confused with these Mynah Birds . Laura's new album is called What We Lose in the Fire We Gain in the Flood and was recorded with singer-songwriter/producer Richard Swift. Nice combination, indeed! It will be out on April 27th. [...]

One of the most distinctive voices to emerge from the District belongs to Laura Burhenn. After carrying on as a solo artist for many years, followed by the brief life of Georgie James , she emerges with her latest project, The Mynabirds . Last summer, while working with songwriter/producer Richard Swift , who has put out a few notable records of his own on Secretly Canadian, they recorded the body of songs which would become What We Lose in the Fire We Gain in the Flood . A warm, lush record filled with [...]

I have to say, my favorite guest-DJed shows are the ones where I go home at the end of the night thinking, "damn, I have to track down a bunch of those albums." Last night was completely one of those shows, and it was only the tip of the iceberg: not only did Patrick Rodgers play a ton of great tunes worth checking out, you can also check out what he's listening to on a daily basis over at A Record A Day . On Monday night we celebrated his 200th album review on [...]

Sorry, all you TV show choir worshippers—show choir poster boy Adam Lambert won't be appearing on Glee , but he will be appearing on Oprah . Adam confirmed through his Twitter that the rumors of him appearing on the daytime talk show are true. Let's hope Oprah's staff has a heavy duty Dust Vac to clean up all the glitter Lambert's sure to leave on her couch. And which female music phenomenon of 2009 is rumored to be performing with Adam on Oprah ? Not Lady [...]

We got down to brass tax, hashed it out in smoky, ill-lit conference rooms, made a few under the table deals, and finally emerged with some consensus of a Top 10 albums list for 2009 (at least we were able to come up with ten this year). It was a grueling prcoess paring it all down-- there was just so much to like and so much that deserved our ears' attention in 2009. This, then, is just a portion of that, which itself is only a portion of what we were able to actually hear in the past [...]
For the 12th year Brainwashed Readers have voiced their opinion on the best and worst music of the year. While some of the results shouldn't come as a surprise, there are, as always, plenty of anomalies. Brainwashed Readers have once again, and probably moreso than any other previous year, distanced themselves from the mainstream. Thanks to all who took part. As always, the Brainwashed Staff have added their comments. Album of the Year:Sunn O))), Monoliths Dimensions Their best album by a country mile. I get the feeling their collaborators have a lot to do with [...]
