I first saw Haley Bonar opening for Andrew Bird at the High Noon Saloon in 2006 . I was hooked and have since lost count of how many times I've played her fabulous album, Lure the Fox . Since then, Madison has been fortunate to have Haley return on many occasions, most recently behind her equally great album, Big Star . Haley Bonar returns to the High Noon Saloon for a $10 show on Friday, November 20th . [...]

At the cool little space known as Public Assembly, Babelgum and the Ice Cream Man decided to throw a party last night (Nov. 17th). Not only was there an open bar and free ice cream to celebrate the completion of the Ice Cream Man's journey across America and the music festival scene , but musical acts Kurt Vile and Times New Viking were set to entertain the assembled mass. Not bad for a Tuesday. The space was clamoring, the alcohol was flowing, and clusters of chatty people seemed ready for some [...]
the dodos - fables [i'm totally going to date myself here, but there is something remotely trashcan sinatras about this song. i've been a big fan of this band since 2007 and am so happy that they've polished their sweet sound for their latest album 'time to die'. really wonderful stuff here] http://feeds.feedburner.com/Wo ngiesMusicWorld

Peggy Sue at Lit Lounge (10/23/09) Photo : Jon Klemm Well, I'm finally getting around to posting some more CMJ pics, so here's a set from Peggy Sue to coincide with the release of their new 73/digital single "Yo Mama" which came out yesterday ( Nov 16 ) on the UK's Chess Club Records . It's the first single from their forthcoming album entitled Fossils and Other Phantoms which is coming out in early 2010 on Yep Roc . The new album [...]

In news that is sure to warm the cockles of many people's hearts, The Dodos are returning to Australia in February for a short tour. The now three piece band toured here early in 2009 for Days Like This and were a great hit. Well, why not. After all their 2008 album "Visiter" was a wondrous beast. In September they released their new album in "Time To Die". Whilst not as amazingly good as "Visiter", it is still highly enjoyable with their innate ability to write gorgeous melodies coming to the fore. [...]

The time-honored tradition of the All Things Go Mixtape has returned, albeit in a new form. Instead of its themed predecessors, the new ATG mixtape will be released each month and will stay somewhat within a general motif or mood, but will not be constrained by a specific theme. We kick the new monthly mixtape series off with the November mixtape, which features a cozy combo of memorable bands and warm, fuzzy newcomers. We start off with Little Red, a band I keep thinking I've posted about, but really never got around to it. "It's Alright" [...]

This is what I learned when my friend played "Winter" for me on Saturday night. (P.S. You know winter is here when the sun sets at 5pm) The Dodos — Winter Amazon / iTunes –Chris

I'm loving street music blogs. It's always nice to hear a nice ditty when you walk by on your way to work or the subway or whatever and it would be a real treat to see some of your favourite artists play in this manner. There are lots of local indie street level video blogs popping up all over the world, set in strange locations other than studios. There's Black Cab Sessions based in Britian, Blogotheque in France, Amsterdam Acoustics in the Netherlands and many others. One of my newer discoveries is: [...]

Time's whipping by so fast that I have to start planning out these last weeks of 2009 on CTRR. Last year, there were several festive year-end features on the old yuletide blog (groan if you must), including my Year-End Round-Up weekly mixes , the countdown of my Top 40 albums of the year , the Christmas weekly mix , and the New Year's Eve party mix . And I still have to work in my Day of 200 songs before all of this kicks off. This week's mix will be a winter one despite [...]

By Carrie Brownstein As beardy indie-folk takes over, is rock losing its edge? (Getty/Fergus McDonald) These are strange times in rock music when the genre's big brothers and elder statesmen -- those pillars of manliness, with upper bodies so capable and broad that it looks as [...]

Band: Megafaun From: Durham, NC Sound: folk-inspired American music that incorporates elements of country/bluegrass, rock, jam band mentality, and sonic exploration Similar Artists: Akron/Family, The Band, Fleet Foxes, Grateful Dead, Bon Iver Listen: "Kaufman's Ballad" Based in Durham, North Carolina, Megafaun was built by brothers Brad and Phil Cook and fellow Eau Claire, Wisconsin native Joe Westerlund.
According to several sources, including the band themselves, singer Steven Tyler is no longer a member of Aerosmith . Although there has been no official word, Joe Perry told the Las Vegas Sun ""Steven quit as far as I can tell....he has had no contact with me or the other band members. Right now i'm adjusting to how we're going to go on, Aerosmith is such a powerful band, I mean it's like a steam locomotive. You just can't disregard 40 years of four guys who play together as well as they do. As far as replacing Steve, it's [...]
click here to stream full album in myspace Sounds like: Spoon, Phoenix, Wilco, The Walkmen, The Dodos What's so good? I've mentioned my "wave theory" on new music before (see Memory Tapes ), which estimates that roughly every two weeks I find an album that stands above the rest. While my timing may have been off (it has been more than a month), I believe I have once again caught that seventh wave. The new album [...]
