Bonnaroo 2010 So it was bit of a roller coaster ride for those of you following the Bonnaroo lineup announcements today, with new acts being added to the bill every 10 minutes or so via their MySpace page . In the end, the top of the bill headliners for this year's festival are: Jay-Z, Stevie Wonder, Dave Matthews Band , and Kings of Leon . With the exception of Stevie Wonder, who isn't a regular on the festival circuit, in my opinion, this year's headliners are a [...]

B almorhea has, to me, always been one of those bands that has epitomized the ideals of instrumental music. While that may sound like an overly bold statement, I draw attention to the fact that I do realize there is a huge difference between the ideals and the execution of them. Balmorhea's self-titled debut was one of my favorite albums of 2007, owing mostly to the subtle balance of acoustic guitar and piano: the resulting sound was nothing short of spectacular. Three years later we are at the band's fourth full-length release, after the aforementioned self-titled release, 2008's [...]

Robinson Crusoe with dog and music (1913) The following is an account of a middle-aged male who lived twenty-eight years all alone on an un-inhabited island. Found next to his skeletal remains was a smashed up music device that was still playing a song in the sand. The mix between the force of sun and the anxiety that comes with desolate isolation tell me it must already be past noon. The waves pull inward, everything does here, and instinct and hunger drag [...]

This q and also a features the answers of blogger turned rocker Kevin Diamond the singer/guitarist/keyboardist of Shark? . q: What is the last song you (really) heard? a: A Crime (mp3) by Carnivores . We just played with them and Dinosaur Feathers at Cake Shop last night and they blew me away. A Crime is their catchiest tune, though Organ Trail is probably my favorite so far. I just got it this morning and I've listened to the album three times [...]
This review was originally published by Foxy Digitalis . [Daddytapes; 2009] Jack Callahan is a percussive sound-explorer who currently calls Amherst, MA home. Having spent two years there, I know it's an interesting, cozy, and snowy community filled with people making strange sounds and studying funky academic disciplines that have little to no value within a world driven by death and capital. The Pioneer Valley is a safe haven for crazies and a place that healthily nurtures bold artistic spirits. These two sides show Callahan, [...]
As I think we're all aware, it's getting harder and harder these days to find a complete album that's enjoyable to listen to al the way through. With most people downloading single tracks from iTunes or Amazon (if they pay for them at all), the very concept of an album seems to be falling by the wayside. But every once in a while something does come along that is crafted as a whole, an immersive experience, even going so far as having intros, tracks blending together, skits, whatever. The Decemberists gave us a virtual rock opera last [...]
