After last year's Grammys, when Arcade Fire performed dodging Mat Hoffman bike-tricks and then immediately won the Album Of The Year award, the award show has a high standard to live up to when it comes to ridiculous and implausible but kind of awesome indie-rock performances. But even though Bon Iver got nominated for a boatload of Grammys and s howed up in a Grammy ad , we won't get a chance to see Justin Vernon singing "Holocene" from the bottom of Tony Hawk's halfpipe. As it turns out, Bon Iver isn't performing at this year's ceremony. [...]

First, guitars. Many people have apparently spent the first month of 2012 suggesting that guitar music is dead, or ill, or on the wane, or something else equally fatuous. And by "many" I mean a small handful, and by "people" I mean journalists, and by "journalists" I mean music hacks old enough to know better, with a vested interest in such an observation being true. But in leaving the term "guitar music" tantalisingly undefined, the argument falls apart: from the enduring success of Download/Sonisphere, to the Gallagher brothers (and their followers) bothering the album charts with rock-slanted LPs, [...]

Like Vampire Weekend on an Oxycontin high, Capybara brings warmth and life to a hazy landscape with Dave Drusky . At the intersection of Band of Horses and Arcade Fire, with a touch of Bon Iver and an affinity for the xylophone, is Capybara, a Kansas City quartet that has had a busy two years riding the success of their debut album Try Brother and co-signs from Spike Jonze and the Strokes. Try Brother was recorded in a frozen pueblo in New Mexico, and that same sense of warmth in a cold place emanates throughout...

Brooklyn-based band Milagres don't have a groundbreaking sound but they've previously proven themselves adept in building indie-emotional-pop walkabouts in the same vein as The National or The Antlers on their first album Seven Summits in 2008. The group's second album Glowing Mouth attempts to immerse the band further into tension-packed melancholia and often end up reminiscent of Arcade Fire's obsessions ('Here to Stay', 'Gentle Beast', 'Fright of Thee'). Stadium-sized synthesizers and over-the-top drum sounds sometimes aren't enough and the lazy hopping in night-wonders of 'Lost In The Dark', the throbbing [...]

We haven't heard much from Fanfarlo after their hypeworthy 2009 debut Reservoir (maybe we weren't looking) - but now all of a sudden it's 2012 and they've got a sophomore album and new, very weird friends. Here's Yeasayer's bizarre remix of "Shiny Things", the lead single from the upcoming Rooms Filled With Light . Czech it: Fanfarlo - Shiny Things (Yeasayer Remix) If you haven't seen the video yet, you might [...]

Imagine this: you're in a band that's doing fairly well, about to embark on tour when you decide to go to the doctor because you're not feeling one hundred percent. What you thought was maybe just a cold turns out to be something more daunting: leukemia. This is the news that Andrew McMahon , frontman of piano rock sensation Jack's Mannequin , was given in 2005. Instead of losing hope and accepting a fate of being sick, McMahon fought hard to get well, and since has served as an inspiration for many young [...]

For better or for worse, UK-based music magazine NME has rolled out its shortlist of nominees for its 2012 NME Awards. Justin Bieber, Lady Gaga and Adele each earned noms across the various irreverent categories — some more forgiving than others. ( Born This Way and Under the Mistletoe both came in under Worst Album, oof!) Also scoring nods were newcomers Lana Del Rey and Azealia Banks and awards veterans Coldplay, The Throne and Katy Perry. See the full list of 2012 NME Award nominees below. The winners [...]
NME ya anunció a los nominados a los premios que entregan cada año, y han introducido también algunas nuevas categorías. Cabe mencionar que es impresionante que Arctic Monkeys estén peleando por tantos premios (siete en total). ¡Que empiecen las apuestas! Mejor banda británica Arctic Monkeys Bombay Bicycle Club The Horrors Kasabian Muse (Ganador del año pasado: Muse) Mejor banda internacional Arcade Fire Foo Fighters Justice Odd Future The Strokes (Ganador del [...]

After five seasons and an emotional rollercoaster of a finale, Chuck has finally come to an end. The NBC action-comedy show revolved around computer nerd-turned-spy Chuck Bartowski and his handlers Sarah Walker and John Casey. While fighting an infinite supply of villains and dealing with personal relationships that came along the way, the group grew incredibly close and ultimately became a family. Chuck has been known for its focus on indie rock in its soundtrack, using songs from the likes of The Shins, Arcade Fire, and Band of Horses. We'll miss Chuck, the hundreds [...]
Austin City Limits has been on something of a roll lately. Over the last couple of weeks, the PBS music-performance show has featured Arcade Fire on one show and Fleet Foxes and Joanna Newsom on another. And on this past weekend's episode, the show featured another pretty great pairing: Florence & The Machine and Lykke Li. Watch the full hour-long episode with performances from both of them below. Read More...

Feel the Sound , Imperial Teen's fifth long-player, is an agreeable piece of middle-of-the-road indie pop. Nothing more. And that ain't a bad thing, necessarily. Some indie rock bands want to make a serious artistic statement. Think Animal Collective, Arcade Fire, maybe Grizzly Bear, and the Antlers and go on from there. Then there are indie pop acts who just want to make something that's fun and bubbly. Into that category you can throw Imperial Teen, originally based in San Francisco but whose members have spread out across the continental United States. Their fifth full-length, and first in five [...]
