Capybara: Dave Drusky

CAPYBARA sings to a capybara
Like Vampire Weekend on an Oxycontin high, Capybara brings warmth and life to a hazy landscape with Dave Drusky . At the intersection of Band of Horses and Arcade Fire, with a touch of Bon Iver and an affinity for the xylophone, is Capybara, a Kansas City quartet that has had a busy two years riding the success of their debut album Try Brother and co-signs from Spike Jonze and the Strokes. Try Brother was recorded in a frozen pueblo in New Mexico, and that same sense of warmth in a cold place emanates throughout...

Soundtrack From Season 5, Part 2: Chuck

Soundtrack From Season 5, Part 2: Chuck After five seasons and an emotional rollercoaster of a finale, Chuck has finally come to an end. The NBC action-comedy show revolved around computer nerd-turned-spy Chuck Bartowski and his handlers Sarah Walker and John Casey. While fighting an infinite supply of villains and dealing with personal relationships that came along the way, the group grew incredibly close and ultimately became a family. Chuck has been known for its focus on indie rock in its soundtrack, using songs from the likes of The Shins, Arcade Fire, and Band of Horses. We'll miss Chuck, the hundreds [...]

Uscite discografiche Gennaio 2012 (2° parte): recensioni

Pulled Apart By Horses – Tough Love

Pulled Apart By Horses - Tough Love (Album Review 2012)

Pulled Apart By Horses - Tough Love (Album Review 2012) There is a growing consensus that guitar music is in crisis. If there is any truth in this, Leeds post-hardcore garage quartet Pulled Apart By Horses sound like a band on the verge of pioneering the resurgence. After the release of their rough-round-the-edges eponymous debut in 2010, the band hit the festivals and were asked to tour with Muse, and growing as musicians, the follow-up Tough Love is a much more solid record, building on the might of early single I Punched A Lion In The Throat – a furious combination of lead singer Tom Hudson's terrifyingly straining vocals and [...]

PINEY GIR – CALL BACK

PINEY GIR – CALL BACK Piney Gir's 2011 album Geronimo was another chapter in what is an under-rated career. She was able to craft beautiful indie pop songs that owed a debt to the 60s sounds of Spector and the Beach Boys. It was music to swoon to, music to dance to and music to harmonise to – it certainly was an interesting day in the Bowlegs office when we tried to combine those three elements while listening to the album. An interesting day and one we shall never speak of again. That aside, we thought we better catch up with Piney and [...]

Soundtrack from Season 1: Gossip Girl

Soundtrack from Season 1: Gossip Girl "Gossip Girl here. Your one and only source into the scandalous lives of Manhattan's elite." Now, while your phones may not be constantly ringing with blasts from Gossip Girl covering the latest news regarding Serena (Blake Lively), Blair (Leighton Meester), and their slew of family and friends' privileged lives (flawlessly balanced between turmoil and perfection), the phenomenal soundtrack is sure to stay ringing in your ears. From the drugs and partying to the twisted relationships full of lies, deceit, and love, CW's Gossip Girl has found the ideal tracks to set the backdrop and atmosphere for the fast-pasted, [...]

Shout Out Louds Strip Down Madonna's "Ray of Light" in Paris.

#19 ● Shout Out Louds ● Ray Of Light (Madonna cover) ● ParsEnLive.fr ♫
When we last saw a video from Shout Out Louds, they had paired a grand vision of industrial decline with a Band of Horses cover. We named it a Best Cover Video of 2010. Now they're back, with a significantly less ambitious video. It's their version of Madonna's "Ray of Light," performed backstage in Paris. The duo of Bebban Stenborg and Adam Olenius pare the pop smash down to just an acoustic guitar and two delicate voices. If Madonna plays this song at the Super Bowl, suffice to say it won't sound like this. Check out "Ray of Light" below. [...]
