Say what you like about Future. Say that he sounds like a poor man's Waka Flocka Flame. Say that he stole his name from Mekhi Phifer's character in 8 Mile , ironic not only because the movie is 10 years old, but because the character was a relatively talentless hype man whose main function was to keep Eminem from getting shot. But what is undeniable is that, with the release of Astronaut Status , Future has just joined a prestigious club; artists who have had multiple releases reviewed by me on this site (in case you were wondering, [...]

That's not a typo. Which Marvel character will meet which DC character? Here's a hint: The book will launch in April, just a few months before each character will be featured in a major motion picture. Hit the break for more. Bleeding Cool recently released information that Marvel and DC are planning a 12-issue SPIDER-MAN MEETS BATMAN series that will span the lives of each character, showing various meetings "through time." I recently told the industry that they need to [...]

They say that if you share what your wishes are, they don't come true. I know this myth to be false. Back when I was maybe 12 or 13, I stole a bunch of CDs from a store in the mall. Back then, there was no internet piracy, so we had to steal things the old fashioned way. A friend and I ripped the CDs out of their packaging, put them in a bag that I was already carrying, and walked out. Within minutes, we realized that someone was following us. We walked into other stores, made random [...]

THE MASSIVE. Dark Horse is previewing the new book by Brian Wood and Kristian Donaldson, the team behind the well-reviewed (but not read by me) IDW miniseries titled, "Supermarket." I have to say, I'm not as big a Brian Wood fan as most others seem to be. DMZ is his "masterpiece," but in my view it is pretty uneven-I'm still working my way through it. Massive does look cool, though. At least the preview image does. Check it out at the right. D.C.'S 2012 ABSOLUTE EDITION LINEUP. An "absolute" edition is a special, oversized [...]

Infectious pop rockers The Balconies announce upcoming tour dates in support of their new Kill Count EP , available from the band, strictly at shows. The Balconies will play a number of dates throughout Ontario this fall, including supporting performances with Bedouin Soundclash. The band has shared the stage on previous tours with famous crowd pleasers like Mother Mother, Cold War Kids, and Sloan - just to name a few. Since their inevitable relocation to Toronto from Ottawa, the band has recorded the Kill Count EP and forthcoming LP with Jon Drew (Tokyo [...]

The Cookers are trumpeters Lee Morgan and Freddie Hubbard. They often played with a ferocious and furious onslaught of notes as if their brass instruments were AK-47s and their notes of choice were high caliber, hollow-tipped projectiles. But both were equally capable of delivering warm and tender ballads that could melt hearts that had been steeled by disappointments and betrayals. These were the quintessential post-bop trumpet men of jazz. Somehow, I always thought the older of the duo was the younger, perhaps because Lee Morgan got the earlier start as the mentee of the master Dizzy Gillespie and [...]

You might have noticed that there's a battle going on over rap battle formats. In one corner, there's the traditional shit, in which MCs face off over instrumentals and are expected to spit legit freestyles in the spirit of the dozens. In the other corner, there's what you might call the "new" battling - popularized by Grind Time among others - in which rappers know who they're battling ahead of time, get to write and memorize their rhymes, and spit a capella. Anyone who's unaware of the latter style is probably scratching their head right now. [...]

Here at Love Machine we have already [...]
We've been seeking out bands and fans everywhere to get their most memorable and outrageous mosh pit stories. This week we have a tale to share from screamer Trevor Tatro, of Oklahoma six piece Outline in Color, about an unfortunately vomit-fueled altercation in the pit. Over the years I've been to a plethora of shows. Whether I'm playing one o... Read More/Discuss on Metal Underground.com
