When we heard that psychedelic rock band The Flaming Lips & Erykah Badu were teaming up we must have missed the memo that Siri would also be featured. Yes, that Siri - Apple's iPhone virtual Girl Friday, she appears alongside Erykah and a reversed Biz Markie sample on Now I Understand. I'm not too familiar with The Flaming Lips but I'm enjoying this introduction to them and finding myself drifting away with Erykah's soothing vocals. [...]

I don't possess the very latest iPhone, and so what I've seen of that newfangled Siri feature has been friends' half-witted demos where the question posed is like "Siri, please tell me why I wake up with this sinking pit of desperation in my gut every morning" and Siri is like "Finding you: sinkhole repairmen in New York City." I have always been on the fence about the music of The Flaming Lips . Some of it really hits home, why other times it seems to fly right over my head. Either way, I respect the fact that they are always willing to try new things, such as their recent list of bizarre collaborations. Our first taste of the announcement from Wayne Coyne and his psychedelic outfit is "Now I Understand"- a liberating song featuring Erykah Badu , Biz Markie, and Siri. I love The Flaming Lips because they embrace creative freakness and the collaboration on "Now I Understand" showcases this perfectly. As far as I know this is Siri's musical debut, but I have a feeling that we'll be hearing more of her in the future. Erykah Badu is her normal lovely self on the "sound construction piece," however I'm a little upset because I was expecting more Biz Markie. Admittedly Batwings Catwings first caught our attention cos we liked the name, but then we listened and it turned out we liked the music too.
