My neighbor is writer and guitarist Jeremy Simon of Dylan Trees . One night, never having said boo to the guy, I crash his birthday bash with ten slices of Abbott's pizza to make first contact. Soon we're catching up on LA bands, footnotes and influences, Brian Wilson's "Smile" and Nick Drake. Jeremy's from London, closed and yet endless. I like his positive impression of Los Angeles and didn't think Londoners left King Henry VIII and the Daleks behind for our music scene. He invites me to review Dylan Trees at The Airliner. [...]

So South Africa has not ruined the football World Cup by presenting unfinished stadiums, or by having the German team murdered courtesy of AK-47 wielding criminals, or by placing Ingerlund fans in the middle of a bloody race war. So now the World Cup is being ruined by a plastic horn that is exciting all sorts of otherwise perfectly sane people, as well as David Letterman (who has ruined US television for a long time now). The World Cup us being ruined at the Portugal vs North Korea game. [...]

owl and bear's extensive Live Wilco Archive is the best source for high-quality audio recordings featuring every single incarnation of the band from Wilco's first show in 1994 up 'til the last few months. Updates to the archive have been infrequent in 2010, but the team behind the collection are making up for lost time this month by posting a fresh batch of shows to archive each Friday in June. Last Friday's update includes a killer Tweedy solo show from 2002, a fun '05 gig from Nottingham and two different sources [...]

In March 1972, The MC5 recorded a live in studio session, it was also broadcast on TV. They recorded six songs at Herouville Castle in France, one of them being a new song and another being a cover of a Rolling Stones song ("Empty Heart"). The songs are availabe on a bootleg titled Thunder Express , but a remastered version of the song "Thunder Express" can be found on a greatest hits CD released by Rhino Records in 2000 titled Big Bang: The Best of The MC5 . The song "Thunder Express" is itself one of the last [...]
Phish soundboard recordings in circulation from 2000 aren't plentiful, but we've made a step in the right direction over the last few hours. Earlier today we pointed you in the direction of the definitive recording of the Radio City Ghost and other gems from the first Bonnaroo From The Archives broadcast and now we've got another sick track from 2000 you've got to hear. A few hours ago subscribers to the 9:30 Club's mailing list we're sent an email about the upcoming Phish shows at Merriweather Post Pavilion on June 26 and 27. [...]

As if we weren't already pumped for Phish to hit the stage at Chicago's Toyota Park on Friday for the Summer Tour opener, our friends at YEMblog have put the best recordings your ears have heard of some legendary moments in the band's history into public circulation. Last June, Phish archivist Kevin Shapiro hosted two From The Archives broadcasts for Radio Bonnaroo. While a few intrepid fans recorded the stream, the Pre-FM source files have yet to make its way into mass circulation... until today . [...]

This is part of a performance by the Ben Folds Five during their final world tour undertaken during 1999 and 2000. This is from a concert in Stockholm, Sweden performed on the 18th November 1999. I have tried to source the remainder of the concert without success, I have however confirmed the full set below so you can see where the songs fit in during the overall performance, what we have here is about half the concert. That said this is a great recording, the trio are clearly enjoying themselves along with the [...]
Late on my first listen to Broadcast 2000, from this Tokyo time lapse http://goo.gl/TsEU Here's the offical vid http://goo.gl/fRqi

If I were moving to a remote island and I could have only one source of new music, I'd choose Criznittle's Indie/Rock Playlist . Here's the track listing and torrent links to the current June 2010 Indie Rock Playlist . If we had summer interns, we'd have them toll away the hours by linking each of the band names below to their myspace pages, and also to their band page on itunes, but alas, there are no eager young bodies about to do the dirty work. [...]
"My father has created a huge myth about himself."- David Lewis "Yeah, I met The Beatles ... Ain't no big fuckin' deal." - Al 'Grandpa Munster' Lewis There are two surefire ways to start a fight in America: you can call someone a socialist or you can call someone a liar. Al Lewis, known to millions of television viewers as Grandpa Munster, was both. Had Al Lewis ever written an autobiography, it most certainly would have been marketed as a Choose-Your-Own-Adventure book. Lewis was an outspoken progressive, a chronic cigar smoker and [...]

Halfby - Never Click Halfby - Whispering My Name Halfby - North Marine Drive There's a large sample-based music scene in Japan, one foot in hiphop and the other in indie music.
