Yellow Ostrich Editor's Note: I love good news. Jon Wolf couldn't stay away from the Mixtape game. Here's a mixtape he compiled and hopefully, he'll continue to do so periodically. Welcome back on the horse, Jon. Mixtape: The Best of 2012 (as of January) by: Jon Wolf The Internet loves lists, especially year-end lists. Living in the age of everything-all-of-the-time, who wants to endure the inconvenience of waiting an entire year to compile a year-end list? [...]

Now that 2011 is finally gone and we're all looking into the rising sun that is the glory of 2012, so to speak, one might be inclined to suggest that last year's interesing yet futile debates on the justification of nostalgia in contemporary pop music should somehow be over by now, but most of today's reviews of Cloud Nothings ' probably quite excellent album "Attack on Memory" prove otherwise . Enter Montréal's Christian Richer, whose (unfortunately still unreleased) album "19683, recorded under his psych-infused guise The Haiduks , was nothing but a full embrace of late sixties [...]

So 2011 has finally come to an end, leaving a superb musical legacy and very exciting prospects for the music to come in 2012. As we all try to avoid concentrating on that January back-to-school feeling, The Line of Best Fit's writers take a look at the year ahead and shed some light on what they're most looking forward to. Uncovering the vast range of tastes and influences that make The Line of Best Fit what it is, our writers talk about music from Breton through to Bad Religion, Chad Valley and Paper Route to Pet Shop Boys and Nicki [...]

First post of the new year! Ok, ok so it's 2012 and you are probably tired of seeing best of lists already. Well we worked hard on this list and hope you dig it anyway. We have 3 of our correspondents, including myself, who are avid concert goers compile this list. And like most, we begin by struggling to come up with 10 then by the end actually have way more and struggle to narrow it down to only 10! It was so hard to choose, between us this year we have seen Blink-182 , Cloud Nothings [...]

# ALBUMS OF THE YEAR 2011 # What a great year 2011 has been for music, fascinating and fast moving as always. No amount of words will do having these top 50 records justice, but I felt that there's nothing so impersonal as a list with no explanation. At the same time, writing about 50 albums has consumed so many hours of my time. These numberings aren't infallible, nor are they particularly objective. Look at this post more as a collection of albums which excited me in 2011, and which formed the great part [...]
1. Wild Flag , Wild Flag In a difficult era for unconceited, forthright rock, Wild Flag has seized an opportunity to act as a bantam foil to the wealth of snobbery that permeates almost every facet of modern alternative culture. In doing so, this infant group of alternative rock and riot grrrl veterans has also created something of an archetype for those who care not to weight marketability over substance or who simply want a balance of the two. Unlike bands who resign themselves to aping banal classic rock n' roll conventions (practically [...]

It's that time of year to look back on the past 12 months and say "what the hell happened to the last 12 months?!". It's also that time of year where us music bloggers and self-proclaimed critics take the time to put together some Best Of lists for your reading pleasure. They don't really mean a whole lot and you can love 'em or leave 'em, but it seems like the right thing to do to sum up the year in preparation of the next. This year we're featuring personal lists from all of our fantastic writers. [...]

#50 Walls - Coracle - Sunporch ( MP3 ) Banjo Or Freakout 's Alessio Natalizia partners with one half of Allez-Allez to create Walls , who released their enchanting debut album 'Coracle' on Kompakt records towards the end of 2011, with accompanying tour. Its heated and swirling electronica which retains the gentle organic feel of his BOF solo project, but with an overbearing ambience and driving euphoric dance beat. You can stream the album in full here . #49 Korallreven - An Album By Korallreven - The Truest [...]

The most wonderful time of the year, right guys? 'Twas the end of December, and all through the blogosphere, not a creature was stirring, except for the sounds of music writers springin' chub, strokin' egos, and Bon Iverin' via the storied tradition of the "best of" list. Well, The Decibel Tolls participates in that jive as well, save for the latter. Be it as it may. So yeah, man... 2011... shit. 2011 was a turbulent and gnarly year, and as such, we've been treated to some truly stellar music. Funny how that works - civic and economic tension [...]
