During its three-year existence, Lilith Fair was a top grossing tour featuring such acts as Fiona Apple, Missy Elliott, Sinead O'Conner and Emmy Lou Harris. The festival ended in 1999. The line-up for the 2010 incarnation of Lilith Fair was recently announced. Acts include Cat Power, Beth Orton, the Gossip, Heart, Erykah Badu, Indigo Girls, Janelle Monae, Ke$ha, La Roux, Lights, [...]

Of Montreal Feature The Other Knowles Sister On New Album, Bring Beyonce Collabo One Step Closer If you've followed our play-by-play on the whole Kevin Barnes/Beyonce Internet pen pal love affair, this will come as no big shock to you. Janelle Monae, Of Montreal, Solange:

While her sister is out coddling ruthless dictators , Solange Knowles has been hard at work beating down the boundaries between hip hop and indie rock. Whether it's covering indie rock standards , or dragging her sister and brother-in-law out to eye-opening live shows neither of them would have been caught dead attending of their own accord, the girl is seriously making moves. You Ain't No Picasso's Favorite Songs of 2009

Do you ever want to know what the dude who works at your record store listens to? Matt Jordan, the blogger behind You Ain't No Picasso, reveals himself as that dude on the #3 spot of his "Favorite Songs of 2009" list, which goes to Dirty Projectors: "The way I spent '09 describing 'Stillness is the Move' to people was this: 'if you took Mariah Carey's "Fantasy" single, broke it with a hammer and put it back together all crazy.' It's not a bad way to describe this tricky song, I guess, but it sure didn't [...]

The Absolute Best Songs of 2009

The Absolute Best Songs of 2009 Artwork by the talented and generous Adam Sarpalius . The final list is here. We have been working on this Absolute (sarcasm) Best Songs of 2009 list all year, updating it at the end of every quarter. I was only going to have PMA's Top 50 of the year listen, but I couldn't narrow it down beyond the top 75. This list will represent and acknowledge some of the artists I felt had to be left out of our Best Albums of 2009 list. As always, I upheld only one rule [...]

Kevin Barnes working with GZA, writing song for Beyonce!

Buried in a Brooklyn Vegan news post was this fun little tidbit: Kevin Barnes has contributed to an upcoming GZA album. It's presumably backing instrumental contribution on his next record, but with Kevin you never really know. Add that to rumors of Beyonce, Jon Brion, Janelle Monae and Solange and it looks like he's got [...]
