Today he released a delicious duet with none other than the most incredible of incredibles, Sara Bareilles . Its perfect love song and they can do no wrong. Does this mean a long one is forthcoming Please say yes. Buy it HERE (iTunes) after listening below. LOVE [...]

Electronic Music is about Discovery. The journey that leads us to realms with novel, foreign, and exciting sounds. The journey that never ceases. You know that you've discovered something truly special and unique when you can't even classify it in a genre or pin down a style. This is the revelation I had when I fell in love with Daft Punk's Discovery. Pure bliss. Pure escapism. And pure, unadulterated thumpers. When I plugged in Controlling Your Allegiance (their second album) and listened to it front to back, this feeling returned. I still don't know exactly how to describe the [...]
I have been married almost a full year now (almost) and yet I'm only half way through the reception portion of my wedding music. In lieu of that, and an impending anniversary, I thought it would be best to dump a lot more on you in one batch instead of doling out four measly tracks at a time. For those just joining these fair proceedings this is the list of songs that I played at my wedding. If you'd like to see all the posts with all of the songs posted so far simply follow the link [...]

★★★☆☆ A field, hangar or wasteland, either baking hot or flinging down rain, the middle of nowhere, thousands of ravers going mental, and the Japanese Popstars. Stadium electro-housers Gary Curran, Declan McLaughlin and Gareth Donoghue follow 2008's We Just Are with stage management done to a tee. The moments the breakdowns drop, the vocal cues... From opening punk funk-ingestion "Let Go," rough and riff-ready to have you singing in the rain, to the cause of epiphanies that is "Building Block" and slow-clap techno of Jon Spencer's "Destroy," the Northern Ireland trio have become the [...]

I saw a really good show last Wednesday at the Echo - Charles Bradley. Old guy can't dance, but he was willing to throw his 63 year old body into the crowd. Such a soulful voice. I also caught Blue Blood at the Satellite on Tuesday. They've only played four shows as a band, but are already impressive. Monday 5/9/11 [Pick of the Night] He's My Brother, She's My Sister / Sister Rogers / Sweaters / The Pleasure Circus @ The [...]
On the infrequent occasion I end up acquiring a new CD these days, the first thing I do is convert the tracks into mp3s. The second thing I do is find a new home for the CD. However, there are a dozen or so physical products that I could never bring myself to part with, one of which is a handwritten CD-R that Scott Hutchison posted to me in 2007 containing rough demos of three songs called The Modern Leper, Head Rolls Off and Old Old Fashioned, all of which ended up being re-recorded for The Midnight Organ [...]
THE JAPANESE POPSTARS SET TO RELEASE ASTRALWERKS DEBUT "CONTROLLING YOUR ALLEGIANCE" ON JUNE 21st 2011 The Japanese Popstars are ravenous. Since they first tasted success in 2006 with their first two releases on a small indie dance label, their career has been one smooth upward curve, but now that line is about to take a sharp rise vertically. Comprised of three lads from Northern Ireland, The Japanese Popstars have spent the last two years racking up the air miles as they've taken their coruscating live show to all four corners of the globe… and still found time to [...]

It's a matter of record that the British Blues Boom of the sixties - as discrete from British Rhythm'n'Blues, a similar but different beast - was originally created not by former rock'n'roll or Beat musicians but principally by ex-jazz players searching for a new "authentic" music. Its earliest practitioners came to the blues via skiffle, the ersatz rural American folk movement of the mid-fifties; subsequent ones via the brief vogue for revivalist traditional jazz at the turn of the sixties. Furthermore, the Blues Boom began not, as popularly thought, with erstwhile jazzman John Mayall's landmark 1966 album [...]

A legend, lots of hip hop and your standard indie rock kind of week... Monday 11/29/10 [Pick of the Night] Roger Waters @ Staples Center ($55 - $250) - Performing The Wall live; I can't even remember the last time I listened to the Wall (probably when I was a Freshman in college) but I'd still like to see this. Accomplished L.A. songsmith rocks soulful original pop Bleu (nee William James McAuley) is a Los Angeles-based singer-songwriter whose biggest commercial successes have come from album tracks placed with Disney stars Selena Gomez ("I Won't Apologize") and the Jonas Brothers("That's Just the Way We Roll"), singer/One Tree Hill television star Kate Voegele ("Say Anything"), and indie-rock and pop acts Boys Like Girls, Jon McLaughlin and Ace Enders. It's a resume that prepares listeners for the craft he puts into the details of his songs, but not the soulfulness he puts into his own projects. [...]
