After a rainy Green Man Festival, team 405 headed to the land of Reading for a weekend of bands, beer and only a small amount of rain. Remember, Reading Festival isn't all about celebrating your GCSE results, they also have one of the most immense line-ups of the festival season. So sit back, relax and have a read of what Ryan Barham, Sophie Achillini and Matt Pinder chose as their highlights. Did someone say, Arcade Fire? Photos by Naomi Goggin [...]
The Joy Formidable - " The Greatest Light Is The Greatest Shade " I recently got my hands on The Joy Formidable's 2009 release, A Balloon Called Moaning . This is the opening track off the album and does a great job at setting the tone for the rest of the songs that follow. Consisting of atmospheric, yet slightly fuzzy indie pop, each track on this album is filled with ear-catching hooks that balance the right amount of grit and polish. Other favorites include "Cradle", "Whirring", and "The Last Drop."
Jazmine Sullivan 's latest video for "Holding You Down (Goin' In Circles)" just hit the web, and it is absolutely slamming ! Whatch the Philly songbird go down back memory lane in this throwback video directed by Marcus Raboy , and party like it's 1989 ! With cameo appearances by her mentor Missy Elliott , but also Doug E. Fresh , Pepa from Salt-N-Pepa and Pete Rock ! Also included the BTS and the official remix featuring Mary J. Blige . --- Au début [...]
It's Monday. Everything sucks a lil' bit. This is for you: The Joy Formidable - Austere

Filed under: Concerts and Tours , News , UK The Joy Formidable positively exploded into their set on the Radio 1/NME Stage at Leeds Festival. Opening with 'Whirring' -- the Welsh three-piece extended the song's outro while lead singer Ritzy Bryan made several attempts to smash her guitar, shaking it by the strings and smashing it repeatedly on the stage floor to huge cheers from the crowd. The axe proved too tough an opponent however, and when the [...]
It arrives with the departure of the cards in the mail and the phone calls ceasing. The flowers wilting. The roar of support and steadfastness matriculating into the pattern of daily living, as if the comfort for a while is not the clicking and clattering of your own brain but the distraction from it. You're left as you always are - by yourself - and the patterns and the work-a-day routine of just going on. Forging ahead. New patterns. Fewer things to attend to then more of a different variety. Famously it was Jimmy Carter [...]

Vic's husband and fellow bookworm Brendan loved James Hynes' new novel Next so much, he had to do another guest review... "By now the plane is empty behind him and the rest of the passengers are trailing away down the long cathedral arcade of the terminal through the pillars of light streaming in the windows: silhouettes fat and lean, major and minor, limping, striding, slouching, swinging briefcases, dangling backpacks, towing wheeled suitcases, in twos and threes, or weaving through the crowd, alone. Canvasback Music , a branch of Atlantic Records that is already home to notable upcoming acts like Manchester Orchestra, Fanfarlo, and Annuals, has its newest signing in a little rock trio from Wales. On the strength of its A Balloon Called Moaning EP, The Joy Formidable is signed to release its first full-length LP early next year. On top of that, the band, which recently shared the road with The Temper Trap and Passion Pit (the keyboardist of which released A Balloon Called Moaning ), will be holding its own [...]

Al Green Plays the Greek on Saturday I made it out to the Bootleg last Wednesdy for Division Day and The Joy Formidable . The venue was packed. Division Day sounded great, making me wish they'd start playing a lot of shows again. The Joy Formidable quickly won over the crowd. The band was tight, loud and Ritzy (the lead singer) had a ton of charisma. Also caught the very tail end of These United States at Spaceland on Friday night. Monday [...]

Frank Yang With all sympathy to Brooklyn's Beach Fossils , who thanks to some lost passports were unable to get across the border, and to the fans who had been waiting to see them, I can't say I was too disappointed that they had to cancel the engagement at Wrongbar on Wednesday night because it meant that my night out would be that much shorter and that I would get to see Warpaint that much sooner. We're talking a difference of maybe an hour, but still - I'd been waiting to see them again [...]

A couple weeks ago, I drove to the once-a-month Alameda Flea Market in search of a coffee table. Hoping to find something 1) gorgeous 2) over 40 years old 3) distinctive 4) less than $500 5) WITHOUT A SQUARE CENTIMETER OF PARTICLE BOARD! With these specifications in mind, I puttered around for 3+ hours and gave more than a few wooden tables my lusty lady gazes. Unfortunately for me & my empty(ish) new apartment, I was unable the find the perfect table for the perfect price. Perhaps next month? Don't feel too sorry for me though—I [...]

The Joy Formidable has been making a lot of noise this year with their phenomenal EP A Balloon Called Moaning and now they announced today that they have signed to Canvasback Music/Atlantic Records and have concurrently announced a U.S. tour this November.
