I've just listened to their debut Let's Rock , and I was pleasantly surprised that there's more to the album than just rock. Parhaat levyt 2008
Vuoden 2008 lähestyessä loppuaan on paikallaan koota perinteinen Parhaat levyt -lista. Kulunut vuosi oli suhteellisen tasainen: paljon hyvää, muttei ehkä mitään erityisen hohdokasta, josta muodostuisi tulevaisuuden klassikko. Useampi positiivinen yllätys ja toimiva kokonaisuus mahtui kuitenkin mukaan. Listalle nousi yllättävän monta debyyttiä (Fleet Foxes, Duffy, Hercules & Love Affair, Joensuu 1685, Land of Talk, Neon Neon, Santogold, She & Him, Vampire Weekend), mikä on luonnollisesti hieno asia. Uusien tulokkaiden lisäksi muutama vakiintuneempi artisti tarjosi levyn, joka on kestänyt kuuntelua kiitettävästi (esim. American Music Club, Conor Oberst, Portishead, Tindersticks). Kiki Pau are an elusive beast. I hear elements of "London calling" -era Clash , especially the appreciation of old-school ska and reggae, and the Kooks ' songwriting in "Bobby Marley" ; rockabilly and indie frameworks ensnarl themselves around angular, playful guitar work akin to that of Franz Ferdinand in "Your bedroom" ; the opening of "Poses" reminds me of The Smiths ' "Rusholme ruffians" , only to evoke much more contemporary British references in the verse and chorus; the break in "Chronic puberty" pays skillful [...]
