What happened to Miles Benjamin Anthony Robinson? The man of many names sort of just vanished. His debut LP is a shocking confessional, heartbreaking and endearing all at once. The album's first single "Buriedfied" is a brilliant track, attacking and restraining at the perfect moments. Not only is it the highlight of his self-titled LP, [...]
Liam Finn - Cold Feet Tonight, the show to see is at TT the Bears. The lineup is really fantastic, and if you've not heard of these guys, lets mark it down now as a must listen. Kiwi Singer / Songwriter Liam Finn brings his pedigree (his dad was in Crowded House) some fantastic music and a raucous live show with him as he comes to our fair city. His most recent release, FOMO , has one of the most catchy songs I've heard in a long time (Cold Feet available above). The song perfectly [...]

What do you get when you mix Amazing Baby, MGMT, Foreign Islands, and Miles Anthony Benjamin Robinson? No, this isn't the beginning of a joke by some Brooklyn-centric comedian. It's more of a recipe for a new band featuring some of the people responsible for those projects. Enter Ill Fits. After seeing them a handful of times this summer, I'm smitten. What's first striking about the band is how comfortable they are on stage together. Of course, this is no surprise when you ...
Originally posted, with slight modifications, in August 2009. Because it's one of my favorite sets...and because bloggers need vacations, too. We're in Truro for a short weekend, just like in 2009, in the same rented beachhouse high on the dunes above the Cape Cod sound. Wakeless trawlers and shore fishermen, beach wanderers and bathers are few and far between, mere specks on an otherwise natural landscape that fills the sense with color: green grasses, faded yellow sand, the variable [...]

Well, we're just about halfway with the reposts... Today, we feature volumes 9 and 10, which were originally posted in August 2009. Volume 10 holds a special place in this blog's history, because that's when Aaron from Tsururadio offered to post the mix on his blog. That started a bit of following and it has grown ever since. Aaron's moved onto Tsuruphoto, following his passion for photography. He now has a nudie-zine featuring some edgy but tasteful art, several videos to promote the zine and Tsuruphoto, and the occasional mixtape. We owe a big thanks for his early support, and [...]

Surprisingly, I wasn't quite exhausted from SXSW, and nor was the near sell-out crowd over at the Mohawk this last Friday night. We all gathered to watch Destroyer , better known as Dan Bejar, not to mention the excellent War on Drugs . As a nice breeze floated in to the venue, you had to know it was going to be a special night. War on Drugs hails from Philadelphia, and we absolutely adored their most recent album [...]

The Strokes' new single "Under Cover of Darkness" is available free for the next 48 hours on their website . Fans can stream or download the song, which is available for purchase next Tuesday, February 15. Their full-length, Angles , is out March 22 via RCA and a day earlier in the UK via Rough Trade. Rolling Stone calls the song a " return to form ," and BBC Radio 6 interviewed lead singer Julian Casablancas last summer about the songwriting process for his solo music as well as the new fourth full-length album. Is it possible to be original and not creative? Or, is it possible for something to be more original than it is creative? I don't think I ever tried to deviate those two terms—they correlate so frequently that it never came up. But, I think this is the case with James Blake 's eponymous debut. I think this is what Pitchfork writer Mike Powell meant when he wrote of James' work , "..it's like I'd walked into the kitchen and saw a big prickly triangular fruit in the fruit bowl." That's exactly it. This album is fresh, it's [...]

"Still Sound" trumpft mit der vielleicht groovigsten Basslinie des Jahres auf. Toro Y Moi - Still Sound [See post to listen to audio] [...]

You've got to choose your battles. Some things (and people) just ain't worth the effort; sometimes it pays to play the long game; and at other times, shoot from the hip first, ask questions later (not recommended as a blanket approach though ...) It's been a tiring week, at the hands of the sprats plus one. The dog and I are still recovering. However, an interesting conversation this morning has given me great food for thought. Sometimes, just sometimes, great words come from unexpected quarters – and are all the more meaningful because of it. Don't [...]

I stopped by the Delancey for the first time ever last night, actually intending to catch Sky Larkin and Miles Benjamin Anthony Robinson. But being unfamiliar with the venue, I didn't realize they were playing the downstairs stage, so I gravitated to the first thing I saw, which was a rather enthusiastic lady in a dress (whom I mistook for Sky Larkin's Katie Harkin) leaping about the crowd. It was instead Electric Child, the new band of Alison Clancey , a multi-talented singer, dancer and artist. I didn't get a full listen, arriving as the set was wrapping up, [...]
