Before I go and review alot of non Canadian albums that is out this week. Here is one that is Canadian. I was fortunate enough to get a chance to listen to Language-Arts. They are a band that is sometimes played on CBC Radio 3. This band hails from Vancouver and the members consist of: Kristen Cudmore Gregor Phillips Their music (on Myspace ) classifies them as indie-rock, obscure hip-hop and chamber pop. This album has this chirpy happiness sound to them. That sense of [...]

If you thought Sweden's only musical export was The Hives and Abba, think again. Formed in 1987, heavy-metal pioneers Meshuggah are considered one of the forefathers of the country's diverse metal scene, and they have paved the way for newcomers like Arch Enemy. Boasting a sound that encompasses thrash, death and experimental, this five-piece goes crazy on their new album, Alive , recorded during the band's 2008-2009 tours of the U.S., Canada and Japan. Meshuggah have been underground extreme metal heroes since they [...]
(photo: Marilis Cardinal) "Heavy, dark, but totally fun" is the way Montreal trio Nightwood describe themselves, and that's pretty apropos after listening to a few of the tracks on offer over at their Myspace page. The band originally caught my attention when they sent me an email letting me know about their most recent video "Bright Girls of Summer" off their October 2009 release, Carta Marina . The video is a time-lapsed document of the entire recording process for the record. When accompanied by the song's march-like beat, the [...]

by Kevin Diamond Athens gets most of the Georgia-based indie-cred; from R.E.M. to the B-52s to Of Montreal, there's no denying that the city has been father to some amazing bands. Recently, however, some new young bnads have begun crafting a strong case for Atlanta being crowned the new Georgian hot-spot of cool. Case in point: Carnivores and their album All Night Dead USA . What if Dan Black covered Madonna's Into The Groove and mashed it up with Kate Bush's Cloudbusting? It would sound like... Dan Black Get Into Cloudbusting free MP3 I was pleasantly surprised by Dan's album ((Un)) last year and it's finally out here in the US. I gravitated [...]
I hadn't seen this version of "C'mon". Their S/T was released last week (you can purchase their album here ) and played the ten shows I talked about. Watching the ten minutes of recap wore me out. I can't imagine the intense day of drinking/playing they put in to promoting the album of performing ten shows in one day. the Soft Pack-C'mon [mp3] The Soft Pack 10 Shows from Kemado Records on Vimeo [...]
Of Montreal's show this past Saturday was the best I've seen them since their Roseland Ballroom show in New York. And really, it's almost an unfair battle since that show had a horse and Andrew from MGMT guest-guitaring on a Nirvana cover. So as far as regular shows go, this one was just about tops. [...]

We had Panton up on Discobelle back in November with his techhouse infused track "Favela", since then he has signed to Southern Fried Records and will drop his debut EP in a minute. Here's a 30 minute mix filled with some serious tunes that he recently did. Panton - January 2010 Southern Fried Records EP Promo Mix (Mediafire) Tracklist is located after the jump. B. Neal began Djing in early 2009. After coming to Montreal for University he was immersed in electro music and culture. Being an avid fan of this new style of music naturally led to Djing. Although he's only been behind the decks for a year, B. Neal has played events with the likes of Designer Drugs, Wolfgang Gartner, Foamo, and Brodinski. Look out for productions in the near future, likely under a new moniker. B. Neal - Year In Review Mini Mix Contact: Brendan@Saintwoods.com

Jonsi at Terminal 5 (May 8-9, 2010) Buy Tickets When we left Sigur Ros' front-man Jón Þór Birgisson (aka Jonsi ) back in December , he was working hard on his new solo record with producer Peter Katis . Well, now that new album has a title, Go , a release date, April 6 , and a bunch of North American tour dates to go along with it. Jonsi will be bringing his impressive sounding show to the big room at Terminal [...]

It's too bad NROTB weren't called the New Ravers On The Blog, because, given the times the producer handle would seem so appropriate. The Montreal producers have been on top of things for a while, and I'll be completely honest here, since "Droplet" and "Miam Miam" were let loose in the summer, I've been trigger happy with every track with their name on it. There's enough nostalgia in each of these tunes for a thirty-something-once-upon-a-t ime-raver (that's me by the way) to, excuse me, fucking lose it. [...]

Panton is a side project of a particular Montreal producer/remixer/dj and this is his mix for Southern Fried Records as a bit of a teaser to the up and coming release of the 4 track ep that includes a remix of 2 bears (solo project of Jos from Hot Chip). Southern Fried Records if you didn't know it is home to some of THE ballsiest producers around including Armand Van Helden, Black Noise, Crookers, Cagedbaby, The Black Ghosts, The Whip Shinichi Osawa and the aforementioned 2 bears. Wilkosz + Way Under normal circumstances, it'd be logical to consider the record that followed a band's breakthrough album through the lens of how those successes might have affected their creative process and output. You can't quite do that in the case of Woodpigeon's newest record Die Stadt Muzikanten , however, because even though its predecessor Treasury Library Canada was the album that brought the Calgary outfit national recognition via the Polaris Prize long list, Muzikanten was already completed and [...]
