POWERAXE - Liberia "Spiritual metal" instrumentalists POWERAXE , made up of brothers Ryan and Brian Randall, have been melting faces all year. They've become fixtures of FMLY Rides - watch them slay in this video from July - and a spinoff of the band, BROHAMMER , stole the show at the LA Lottery League this past February. If you want to get a taste of the chaos they bring, check the above video of the band terrorizing LA the parking lots and side streets of LA via Uhaul. [...]

Total Slacker's music mirrors the band name in production and performance – which is probably why it so often veers into highly listenable territory. Carlos Hernandez from AVA LUNA got the band's lo fi antics down on tape, and his rattling garage-production creates a lax and effective style flooded with distorted guitars and perfected, loose rhythms. Front man Tucker Rountree often shares vocal duties with bassist Emily Oppenheimer, which proves to be the band's unique selling point. Their drummer, Rob Condon, is brother to Beirut's Zach Condon. It all opens with 'Psychic Mesa', a track something akin to [...]

Over the past few day I have been completely mesmerized by the recent slew of mixes given to us by some of electronic music's finest. Below find a recent selection of mixes from James Murphy , Four Tet , and Jamie XX . Upon discovering the top-notch New York radioshow Beats In Space , I was quick to download it's two most recent guests- James Murphy and Four Tet. James sticks to his signature dimly lit, late night disco sound walking the line between pristine, eerie, mystical and funky. [...]

Photo by Philip Cosores James Murphy, whom you may remember from LCD Soundsystem, has been hammering out some DJ sets on the festival circuit, and recently recorded a three hour set for Beats In Space . We have the session broken up in two parts for you to download below, as well as the tracklist. Note how Mr. Murphy has even stumped the folks at BiS on a few numbers. Current tourdates below, as well. Download James Murphy BeatsInSpace-08.16.11 Part1 with James Murphy [...]
To celebrate the release of Jamie Jones' excellent fabric 59 series the esteemed London club and label have put together this lovely little video – which pretty much embodies the loopy, sultry grooves of Jamie's mix. The mix is released Sept 12, 2011 in US, Order Now Morph into fabric 59: Jamie Jones from Fabric London on Vimeo . Jamie Jones has become a household name and created an accessible brand for a new generation of dance music fans with [...]

With all this new, interesting bass music flying around it's nice to see that Fabric still have time to push the staple of electronic music: House. Jamie Jones ' contribution to the Fabric series is just that. The first half of the mix is a smooth journey through the sparser, less sensational side of the genre. Chugging bass synths, kicks and cymbals link up for hypnotic grooves, punctuated with vocal loops and sporadic stabs. It's a mesmerising listen, the subtlety of the tracks and the mixing [...]

Marc Houle is a minimal techno producer and DJ from Canada, currently lives in Berlin, and is a member of Richie Hawtin's Minus label collective. Judging by the tracklist, he also happens to have a wider musical taste, blending vintage 80s synth-pop records and other obscurities. Tracklist: 01. Rick Hicks – Dee Ex 02. Absolute Body Control – Is There An Exit? 03. AK 47 – Stop! Dance! 04. Nine Circles – Twinkling Stars 05. Aviador Dro – Telepatia 06. Rick Hicks – Beloved [...]

Porn Cal. This bloke is from the UK and has only been producing for 4 months but you can already see the vast amount of talent he possesses. He cites his major influences to be Mr Oizo and SebastiAn and although their influence is clearly felt, it's obvious that this guy is going to do whatever he wants. If you check out his soundcloud his music ranges from electro to nu funk to blue wave to minimalist although it's hard to place them in an exact genre. There's a certain quirkiness in each track (I guess that's partly [...]

Thrashin' There's something about the whimsy and spontaneity of Total Slacker 's fun-loving ethos and rocking out songs that makes a lasting impression. Their post-grunge pop, from shifty to boundless to creeping to outright thrashing songs, keeps the flame for energetic creation without necessarily having hordes of expendable energy. The New York trio come off as exuding both horizontally chilled out vibes and unrestrained enthusiasm. It's a winning combo – they're cool without even trying. And people [...]

We woke up to something a bit different this morning from 3024 label runner and progressive dubstep entrepreneur Martyn, who's pieced together the spontaneously collected "IMPULSIEF" mix - Dutch for impulsive, full of some classics that you might not expect to hear from him (Ahem, Pet Shop Boys). Maybe it only feels surprising because it's really difficult to find a promotional photo of Martyn where he's not shrouded in darkness and looking uber-serious, not sure. Regardless, Martyn talks about the mix: 'I do like spontaneously recorded moments, so I woke [...]

Nope The Top 50 isn't the name of a new band although it's not the worse name for a band! It's the time of the year where for aesthetic purposes I list my top 50 Irish artists .... at the moment ... living in Ireland ..... who have released a single/album ..... and who pay me backhanders! Over the next 2 weeks [Monday - Friday] I'll be working up the list five acts at a time and telling the world why each [...]

And Belfast's Morning Claws round off what is a glorious triumvirate of Candy Claws and Gospel Claws. Funny how all three do not in least bit sound sharp, each supplying a pampering for aural cavities not felt since ear muffs were dispensed with owing to their bulky and slightly nerd like aesthetics. The Claws in this case got Oppenheimer's (now sadly defunct) Rocky O'Reilly in to produce their first born and it sounds like a perfect match going by the electro tinged 'Slack Magic'. The 5-piece have a couple of Irish dates planned including a visit to Whelan's next month. [...]

"I do like spontaneously recorded moments, so I woke up, saw that here in the sleepy suburbs of Washington DC it was going to be a beautiful day, and decided to do a mix as if it were a spring afternoon radio show, with a few jingles [...]
