Second helping of Murphey's bluegrass reinterpretations Michael Martin Murphey's 1975 single "Wildfire" was only the most public aspect of a long and rich career. He appeared on the country charts throughout the 1980s and subsequently developed a deep affinity for cowboy songs. Over the years he's revisited key parts of his catalog, and in 2009 produced a volume of tunes reinterpreted in a bluegrass style. A year later he's back with a second volume that sounds even more confident. His latest concentrates on songs from the early-to-mid 70s albums Geronimo's Cadillac [...]
Bonnaroo 2010 So it was bit of a roller coaster ride for those of you following the Bonnaroo lineup announcements today, with new acts being added to the bill every 10 minutes or so via their MySpace page . In the end, the top of the bill headliners for this year's festival are: Jay-Z, Stevie Wonder, Dave Matthews Band , and Kings of Leon . With the exception of Stevie Wonder, who isn't a regular on the festival circuit, in my opinion, this year's headliners are a [...]

[photo courtesy of Adam Weinberg ] Acidjack reports: "Given that Here We Go Magic's eponymous album is essentially the lo-fi bedroom recordings of frontman Luke Temple, seeing HWGM's live show as a fully realized band was a revelation. With a full band onstage, Temple turned quirky, intimate songs into grand gestures that moved the Friday night crowd. HWGM have toured with a number of bigger acts like Grizzly Bear, but this show proves that they are equally comfortable as headliners. Enjoy!" This [...]

Brooklyn's quartet Black Gold hit AOL Spinner's video page with their song 'Shine' (I like that title !) Click the video below to watch. Black Gold (along with Sherwood and others) plays Phoenix's Clubhouse on Feb 22 - tix are available. "The heart of the song is about a time in a person's life when his or her faith is being tested in the most challenging way they've ever known," band member Than Luu explains to Spinner. "In that moment, you pray for something or someone so bad [...]

The six participating artists came with 4 tracks each to the battle. Because of early exclusion not all of the prepared tracks could be heard that night. This release here combines presented and exclusive tracks. Enjoy a mix of phat midtempo broken Elektro-Acid-IDM. Visit the release page

As promised in the last 'cast , here's the Bearfaced Podcast guide to what's going to be hot in the 2010 musical landscape. If I'm honest, this is one of the best playlists we've had on the 'casts to date; there's tracks from old BF Podcast favourites like Frightened Rabbit , Meursault and Lightspeed Champion - who all have albums out this year - as well as some new discoveries like The Kays Lavelle and The Black Atlantic . There will most likely be full reviews of all these [...]
The fourth installment of Rock On The Range will head back to Columbus Crew Stadium in Columbus, OH this May 22nd and 23rd with a slew of new, some kinda new, some reborn and some recycled rock acts. Categorize them as you wish, but notable acts this year include festival-first-timers Godsmack, Rob Zombie and Slash (solo). Then there's the grand return of (anti-climactic drum roll please) Limp Bizkit! I guess Limp's new album must be close to hitting the shelves at Hot Topic. Other confirmed acts include Coheed and Cambria, Deftones, Mastodon, [...]
Our favorite fish-eyed documentarian, Videothing , recently shot a different kind of video thing. Specifically – a video for the single, "C'mon," by our bros in The Soft Pack . They shot it entirely in what looks like somebody's parents' garage in SoCal using only a green screen (that doubled as a cape) and a purple kaleidoscopic lens plastered with santa stickers. And judging by the use of awesome chroma key backgrounds (a bunch of oranges, a Christmas sweater vest, and a facebook page), this is going to be a pretty sweet vid!

Our stream today comes from Poughkeepsie, NY-based Paper the Operator . We've got a stream of the band's new full length, Goodbye God . You can check it out on their Punknews.org page.

I gotta be honest, I go to a lot of shows. Anyone who pays any attention to the calendar page of the site knows that. An unfortunate side-effect of that is that I've become slightly desensitized to the excitement of seeing a concert, so I'm rarely genuinely excited about seeing a show. This past Friday's Todd Snider show at Skipper's , however, was one of those rare occasions. Todd Snider brought his brand of politically charged jingle-jangle with a little folksoulcountry wit to Tampa for a sit down show at the always amicable [...]
Why would Trevor Strnad punch this kid in the face? That's the only thing I can keep asking myself after viewing the below video, which The PRP posted last night: I mean, it doesn't seem like the kid did anything that warrants a punch, other than touch Strnad. But Strnad's the lead singer of a metal [...]
La Snacks , "Kristin Was A Meteorologist" I've been meaning to write about Austin, TX's La Snacks for a while now. I was first introduced to the band by Jumbo Slice from the DC Rock Club blog about a year ago. Then in November, when I was down in Austin for the Fun Fun Fest , I had the opportunity to meet the band's singer, Robert, at the Local Music is Sexy show put on by WOXY (among others). As a result, I've been listening to [...]
