Temporary Residence Limited, the long-standing indie label known for their eclectic roster which includes Explosions In The Sky, Pinback and the Books, is pleased to announce Canon Blue, the orchestral pop outfit spearheaded by American multi-instrumentalist Daniel James, is hitting the road for a extensive national tour supporting Mutemath. The tour, which hits all major and secondary US markets, kicks off January 26 with performances at The House of Blues in Houston, TX. Since its release in August, Canon...

perfectmidnightworld : SIX SONGS WORTH SPINNING /// (week of) 12.2.11 After skipping last weeks six song roundup, I figured it was only fitting that I be prompt and on time this week. The problem of course being that as we get closer to the end of the year it's just harder and harder to find the time to parade new and interesting tracks to everyone. Luckily, I squeezed in the time and now it's just an issue of presenting some of my favorites to you, the [...]

Pinback's second installment (Pt. B) of the 'Information Retrieved' trilogy, 'True North,' was released on Record Store Day as a limited run. The 'True North' 73 (b-side "CLOAD Q") is available via Temporary Residence...although, I was unable to find it in their inventory. Take A Listen: True North from Pinback
Pinback co-founder Rob Crow dislikes dogs, the Beatles, and people who copy other people's songs, and he's not afraid to tell you about it. The first time I actually talk to Rob Crow, his wife has just gone into labor with the couple's third child. In fact, I'm pretty sure she picks up the phone when I call, because there's a gasp, then a click. Maybe ten minutes later, Crow calls, explains the situation in about one sentence and suggests that we reconnect in a couple of weeks. He is remarkably calm about the whole thing. And I remember...
Record Store Day 's very special holiday schedule isn't the only way Black Friday got spiced up this year. (Pardon the horrid joke construct, internalize the fact that we live in an insane country that's spiraled into a hopeless consumerist hellhole in which spurting pepper spray is the de facto means of communicating with large groups of people. We major!) Nay, for the second straight year, RSD got in on the action with a slate of exclusive rarities, including a 1700 copy limited run of Pinback's second installment in the Information Retrieved 73 trilogy, out via Secretly Canadian, [...]

So if you come by here often enough, you probably think that because I constantly give high scores to everything that everything I come across blows my mind. Yes, I'm just that fucking shallow. Actually, I typically pass over dozens of records that either don't impress me enough or flat-out disgust me. Well today, I've decided to talk about those forgettable pieces of crap for my own personal enjoyment. You'll have to forgive me if they're shorter and snarkier than usual. You may also notice that I've changed the color of my scores from red [...]

Here is a little playlist of what I am listening to right now. I know it is all over the map but try and give them all a chance. Again, sorry for the slacking but at least I haven't given up completely. 1. Sonny & The Sunsets - Teenge Thugs 2. Yellow Ostrich - Til' I Disappear 3. Cotton Jones - Gone The Bells (Daytrotter Session) [...]
Rob Crow's sixth solo album invites you to meet one of Pinback's founding fathers.

You may have noticed that we have a little thing for Johnny Foreigner here at GFP . The bands new album Johnny Foreigner Vs Everything received the first 10/10 we've ever given and we followed it up with a huge interview with front-man Lex. Now in return the band have sent GoldFlakePaint, and you of course, a present in the form of three mix-tapes (one from each member of the band) containing the songs that inspired them while making their wonderful new record. Here's a little [...]
This record is a simpler counterpoint to the intricacies of Pinback, though the melodic pleasures are awfully similar. But its approachability is also what holds it back a bit. There's something approachable, even tossed off, about Rob Crow's work outside of Pinback. From the ramshackle recordings with his side project, Thingy, to the awkward candid photo and block letters that adorned the cover of his last solo record, 2007's Living Well, to the stick figure and hand-written scribble on the cover of the new album, He Thinks He's People, Crow's solo outings offer a simpler counterpoint to the intricacies [...]
Words by Rick Moslen So this is the series where I ramble on about classic indie/punk record labels fated to feed every music junkie's obsessive fix. This time I'm gushing about possibly the mother of them all. Hold onto your butts and stuff some earplugs up those earlobes, cause it's time for some raw, spazzing rock n'roll from Touch and Go Records. I know what you're thinking ... how can I rope Touch and Go 's extensive yet essential history into a mere blog post? That's like leaving your [...]
By the time Bestival reared its beautiful, shockingly sun-tinged head back in September, the icy evening temperatures seemed to suggest that the season for festivalling, with its inherent debauchery and overpricing on everything, had come to a tumultuous close. However with Swn taking place way out west (or Cardiff to be a little more precise), CMJ infesting New York, Binnacle overhauling The Old Blue Last , and Iceland Airwaves wafting around on the distant volcanic isle that barking old Björk calls home (or indeed heim) recently, there's no longer a need to voyage halfway around the globe [...]

With a history that spans many bands and solo releases, Rob Crow , co-founder of Pinback, has crafted songs that delve into countless musical influences and genres. In his follow up to 2007's Living Well , Crow delivers another slice of eclectic sounds and musical variance. Each track on He Thinks He's People is unmistakably Crow though, delicate and measured, and full of his soft vocals matched against his concise instrumental backings. He Thinks He's People is a brisk album, no track coming in over four minutes, and is filled [...]
Record Store Day experienced another successful event in April of this year, and now they're returning for the regular follow up: Black Friday. This year Black Friday takes place on November 25th. The special releases this year are quite varied and the majority seem to be drawn from the back catalogues of classic artists. Sure, Nevermind just got reissued, but why not own a box set of the singles on 103? The Syd Barrett book and 73 looks nice though. Well, rather than just comment about each, I've painstakingly typed out the whole list for you below. [...]

What a fantastic week of music we have here. There are seven solid groups I am all revved up to listen to. But let's kick things off with Penguin Prison since they seem to pop the most out of this list. We already made their song "Golden Train" song of the week . Chris Glover has an alto voice which almost haunts you like that if Michael Jackson. Some serious music going on here with Penguin Prison's self-titled album this week. Let's not shun the rest of the crowd. M83 deserves quite a [...]
