Please give a warm welcome to our good friend Hannah who is taking over the Turntable today. Kasey and I met Hannah and her boyfriend Jeff a few months ago when we realized that we shared a ridiculously large number of similar interests. Hannah is the managing editor at Indie Shuffle - so, yeah, like me she is obsessed with music. She is also an insatiable foodie (something we can clearly relate to). Jeff is one half of the awesome Bread & Gin (alongside co-founder and video-guru Ji). Jeff and I have bonded over a shared love of brown liquor, [...]

Seattle based Lux are a dynamic duo who have never played live and aren't sure if they ever want to. They met and became a band after answering a Craigslist ad. They were receiving offers for tours before even having a record. They are self confessed control freaks, they much prefer the confined spaces of a recording studio to the chaos filled stage. The band is currently prepping their debut album We Are Not The Same for an April release and because of the kindness in their heart [...]

Today, the 17-song sampler—which features live in-studio performances from The Raveonettes, Cults, White Denim, Toro Y Moi, the Dodos, Active Child and many more—is now available as a .zip file download, which you can get for free here .

After a long period of internet buzzing (check their single Candy Girl/You Wish You Were Red ) the Trailer Trash Tracys release their debut record, Ester , next week. It's a collection of broken down pop and introspective dreams - just the sort of thing we can't get enough of. Guitarist Jimmy Lee took some time out to give our Call Back a good going over. Bowlegs: Which album has been a major influence in your life, and why? Jimmy-Lee: [...]

It was the best of times, it was the blurst of times. 1. There Is A Light That Never Goes Out – Dum Dum Girls [...]
Looking back at our 2011 list of Most Anticipated Albums , there is a pretty wide spectrum of releases that fulfilled their potential (Destroyer, Fleet Foxes, James Blake), never quite took off (Danielson, Hercules And Love Affair, Lupe Fiasco), and even a few that we are still waiting for (Dead Man's Bones, Blur, Portishead). Sorry guys, we couldn't get them all right. This year, there seem to be even less announced albums then we are used to, and hopefully we will see a surge in confirmed 2012 releases in the coming weeks. Regardless, we still [...]
For me, music highlights this year included: a tribute to poet Langston Hughes, visits from a milkman, a Shakespearean sonnet, the strangeness of seeing your face on television, finding Gatorade in the wrong section at Wal-Mart, Bibles coated with tropical fruit and drunk simians who refuse to jump. Of course, this is only the tip of the proverbial cupcake (all of these songs aren't from 2011, but that is when I came across them). My actual top fifteen would look like this: 1. Fucked Up -The Other Shoe 2. Skizzy Mars -Profound [...]

Words, videos and photos by Brendan Sullivan This past year, I witnessed somewhere between 80 and 90 concerts, depending on your definition of what qualifies as a "concert" and also on my list-making abilities and forgetfulness. I can't think of any that I genuinely hated. I can think of some that were lackluster, some that I had high hopes for that let me down, some that were fun at the time but leave me with nothing stellar to write about now, and some that were really good but didn't quite make the grade. [...]
