For all those to have been reared predominantly on secondhand smoke on the booze-splatted viscosity underfoot on the carpets and plastics of Brixton's Academy, La Femme's debut London show at The Garage on this significantly more salubrious corner of Highbury is for we. And for seemingly every Frenchman and woman currently shacked up in the capital. For the Le Pré-Saint-Gervais retrospection-revelling outfit hark back to glorified ages and eras past, delving into a history of all things Gallic, groove-laden, and New Wave as the sextet surf triumphantly towards the brightest of horizontal futures. Needless to say horizontal is [...]

Atmospheric indie-rock hasn't had it easy over the last couple of years. When it's good it can be truly great; with its gloomy vocals, driving bass lines and dark synth-y undercurrents. However, it's fair to say that the genre hasn't been well represent recently, with a number of high-profile/low quality releases. Torches are a London-based quintet who have arrived on the scene sounding primed for success. Their music certainly creates that genuine sense of dark atmosphere that is so important, yet so hard to get right. The first few songs to creep out from them [...]

Rhode Island's AraabMuzik, aka Abraham Orellana, likes to think of himself as some sort of sage. Continuing the instructive theme of 20102s collaboration with J. Armz, How to Be an MC , is this year's Instrumental University. In case anyone forgets exactly who is schooling them, Orellana generously drops his signature "You are now listening to AraabMuzik..." Sensuous as that voice is, it comes across as obnoxiously territorial sometimes, especially with all the screams. Admittedly, inflated egos in the hip hop world are as ubiquitous as sampling, and AraabMuzik is a talented enough producer to boast a bit. Instrumental University [...]

When it comes to writing for CITR it's been a quiet month for me. That's not to say I haven't been working though, the vast majority of my efforts have been focused on a CITR project that's both exciting and a bold step forward for the site; yet unfortunately something I can't talk to much about yet. This track has been soundtrack to my new project, the Hot Sugar produced new tune from Big Baby Gandhi . It's no surprise the cut is highly reminiscent of [...]
If you've followed me on Facebook before you know that I enjoy cooking (understatement!) and like to post pictures of whatever food I make. In the RV it's a little bit more challenging to go on any culinary adventures. I try my best but work space is limited as well as cupboard space and having lived in this thing for about two months I'm not quite stocked up on spices and tools either. We're also on a budget whereas at home we almost never got around to eating those leftovers. But as someone said - musicians tend to [...]
Taking what most people consider to be their favorite Bjork song of all-time, Great Skies has eloquently constructed a remix that compliments the Icelandic songstress' 902s classic "Hyberballad." Not trying to go against the sound of the original, Great Skies decides to only make subtle alterations to the track by adding in his signature dub sound to the bassline and beefing up the percussion with a few kick drums and hi-hats. Slightly shorter than Bjork's version, Great Skies seemed intent on delivering a remix that was short, sweet, and more importantly, captivating. And after listening to his remix, all I can [...]

Liam McCormack is a 27-year old from Boston. When his current band was coming to an end, he jumped into a camper van and went off for around the US writing songs and generally living the travelers life. Since that trip, Liam has relocated to Brooklyn and in November he put out his charming new record, Missing, under his Yellowbirddd moniker. We caught up with Liam to chat about his music, his campervan trip and the Mayan apocalypse... Hi! How are you and where in the world are [...]
Hi. It's 2012, and I've yet to put finger to keyboard to whip up a post on this, my site, my IckMusic. No, music hasn't taken a back seat to anything. It's still at the forefront, ever accompanying me on this journey I'm on. I am, however, focusing on thinking differently, and trying to undo some of the mistakes I've made up to this point, this fifth decade of my Life on Earth. I came across an Albert Einstein quote a couple weeks ago (at least that's who it was credited to). It reads: [...]

Hi, hello, yes it is our first post for the new year. What else can we say... What better way to start off the year, a month late, than with Madonna. The reigning matriarch of Pop has returned with a new era nearly four years since Hard Candy . The icon will release her twelfth studio album entitled MDNA on March 26 . With over a month to go before the release of the album the era is already promising to be a good one. The first blitz [...]

01. Helium Robots, "Jarza" [ Running Back ] ( buy ) Like Dissident, the label they first appeared on, Helium Robots seemed to burn bright and fast, falling silent after two tracks in 2008 for Andy Blake's since completed imprint. Then in late 2011, the UK-based duo of Ewan Willmott and Lydia Jones showed their first flicker of life in nearly four years by remixing Lana Del Rey, of all people. Helium Robots appear at full power on the Jarza EP for Running Back, delivering two timeless originals that come backed [...]

You gotta love this Dimitri From Sofia ! He's not from Paris, but he could be. He has been pumping me with awesome mixes and finally i have some time to blog two of them. The first mix is smooth and really perfect for sunsets with the right person next to you.... you know what i mean! I have also asked him to upload another mix he did, which is a tribute to James Bond. I think it's so creative and fancy that i had to share. Enjoy...! Tracklisting [...]
02.02: Native America + Netherfriends + Pals - CIRCLE BAR!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! During it's yearlong absence, the New Orleans music scene did pretty well for itself without Circle Bar around. Shows that probably should have (and technically would have) gone down at Circle Bar found a variety of alternative homes to varying but mostly admirable levels of success. The Blue Nile Balcony Room, AllWays Lounge, Howlin' Wolf Den, Hi-Ho Lounge, The Saint and many others picked up huge amounts of slack; so much so that for certain strenuous stretches of the year, when the live [...]

Benny Hill in his sixties heyday. "The notion that Benny was a lonely man is so depressing and wrong. He just liked his own company. He was very happy walking alone, living alone, eating alone, taking holidays alone and going to see shows alone. I often wonder whether he needed anybody else in his life at all…except perhaps a cameraman". - Bob Monkhouse On Easter Sunday morning in 1992, and just two hours after he had been speaking to a television producer [...]

Woiii!!! Were all in for a treat tonight folks!! We are joined in studio tonight by Bassdrop.ca crew member Mugz ! Incase you don't know about this man, he mixes anything from Dubstep to Electro to Drum N Bass. As long as it is bass-heavy, he's on it. A perfect fit for our show, as that is how we roll each and every week!! The whole crew will be in studio tonight hosting the show and just having a good ol' fashioned shin-dig to help celebrate Mugz ' birthday on [...]

The GFP inbox is approached more with trepidation than excitement these days. Not that there is anything wrong with the content, more that it's a little worrying to see just how many emails have piled up since our last visit. There must be so many wonderful bands/albums/songs that slip through the cracks but thankfully Alpaca Sports wasn't one of them. Andreas Jonsson got in contact with us last week and we instantly fell for his subtle and catchy brand of indie-pop. Hailing from Gothenberg in Sweden, Andreas has recorded his debut single with producer Kalle Von Hall [...]
