In the previous instalments of Curious Germany we noted the tendency in the 1960s of artists re-recording their hits in European languages, particularly in German to cater for the mainland continent's biggest market. Here are a few more German re-recordings, plus a Motown-goes-Schlager track, a most unexpected cover, pre-Schlager stardom Krautrock, a slightly strange Beatles cover, and another singing footballer. * * * The Beatles – Komm, gib' mir Deine Hand.mp3 The Beatles – [...]
This is an ever changing and (hopefully) expanding list of some of the songs I have mentioned before in this blog or simply stuff I have found somewhere on the web that I find interesting, but have no time to write about. All files have been found somewhere in cyberspace (and NONE of them have uploaded by me, so I cannot help you with any requests you might have - just keep returning and something new might pop up), so they will be available until the artists, record labels, fans, whatever decide to remove them. Thanks to a few readers, [...]

I read Dan Brown's The Da Vinci Code at least a year after all the hype and hysteria had died down. I enjoyed the speculative nature of it, especially the whole Mary Magdelene debate and while it was criticised for its historical inaccuracy, it didn't worry me too much as it was a fun and entertaining read. I then went back and read Angels And Demons which I found to be a much better book, though both follow exactly the same formula: symbologist Robert Langdon is [...]

I have to admit, there weren't a lot of high profile releases in July that were really worth a damn. The poll for July 09 was filled with relatively unknown bands like Sir Salvatore and Lushlife, but the album that ultimately came out on top was The Satanic Satanist by Portugal. The Man. Their combo of indie pop and psychedelia swept me off my feet and its good to see it did the same to some of my readers. The album will be included in our end of the year poll. MP3: [...]
We really need to start checking our email inbox on a more frequent and/or thorough basis. If it weren't for a friendly follow-up message from today's featured artist, our little music world could have easily remained stagnant for the balance of this weekend. Sir Salvatore is the San Francisco, California based trio of David Lean (guitar, vocals), Alejandro Soini (drums, bass, vocals) and Eric
About a month ago, I introduced an indie band called Sir Salvatore to your ears. Here is a video for their new single "Parallelevator".. which includes a blow-up doll, a fast car, and a cat. Enjoy!
Here's the new official video from Sir Salvatore for their cut titled "Parallelevator". This is off of their * Good Luck Charm * EP which was recently released and is still available for you all to purchase HERE via iTunes for only $5.94 Pigeons and Planes

I'm getting this post out early this morning then heading out the door for my last week of work before a week of vacation. Well, more like time off, really – not like I'm taking a real vacation; I will unfortunately be staying in and around town. This go-round with the mailbox yielded up a couple of artists I've written about before: Sir Salvatore and Leerone have both previously graced these pages and both have new music out that you should be aware of. I've also gotten a handful of country contributions lately. That [...]
As always, there's an eight-hour pile of tracks for you today. Here's how it breaks down: - Six songs get repeated in that eight hours, so it's four hours between plays for those six songs. They're the ones in " The Grinder ", in case you're wondering what I mean by that when I say it on the FM Showcase (which, by the way, is on 90.5 The Night tonight at 10pm .) - The rest of the songs are set up so [...]

( Editor's note: Bit of a switch on this Lazy Saturday. Instead of all live cuts, we've got introductions to two bands you need to know about and one lonely live track. Just wanted to keep you in the loop. The dude above loves his lawn. Good for him. I hate mine. ) I've written in the past that one of the best things about writing for Citizen Dick is the level of exposure I get to bands that I might not otherwise hear. This week San Fransisco trio Sir Salvatore dropped a copy of their recently released [...]

Have you been waiting in anticipation for some tracks today? Well here are 10 tracks for y'all to check out. Enjoy!!! 1:// First, I would like y'all to know that I still have a major crush on Erlend Øye. I've been quite sad for awhile now because Kings of Convenience haven't released an album in like five years! No worries though because the dry spell is about to come to an end! The Norwegian rock duo are back in action and will release their third studio album in the fall called "Declaration of Dependence". To set [...]

Sir Salvatore: Good Luck Charm Bay area indie rockers, Sir Salvatore release their third EP, Good Luck Charm . On their last EP, Continental Breakfast , Sir Salvatore established their classic indie rock influences, giving the listeners glimpses of bands like the Pixies and Pavement. Good Luck Charm has a little bit different vibe. Singer/guitarist David Lean's voice seems to have matured a little into a more baritone registry. The voice in conjunction with the records vibe reminds me of 90s alternative rockers like Sebadoh or Calvin Johnson's [...]

It's mid-July, and here come the tomatoes! Little grape tomatoes, pear-shaped yellow tomatoes, and gobs of the most ginormous tomatoes I have ever grown. The big one above is almost the size of a softball. This is only what I picked yesterday. A lot more are on the way. Soon we will be eating them for lunch and dinner and on our breakfast cereal and giving them away to neighbors and co-workers. Sadly, I cannot figure out how to make them available to you for download. This photo is the only way they digitize. [...]

Sir Salvatore is an indie rock band out of San Fran, Cali. I got an email from their drummer Alejandro yesterday with two cuts off of their latest EP titled * Good Luck Charm *. One titled "Fireflies, Reading Books" & the other titled "Modern Consequences", and both caught me instantly. Alejandro stated that their sound is like: " Pixies, Radiohead, Pavement, and The Cribs blended with rubbing alcohol & wheatgrass! " I would say that description is pretty on point!!! You can check out those two tracks below. Also below is the [...]
We received an e-mail from Sir Salvatore yesterday with a track from their new EP which is out now and is called Good Luck Charm. They describe their influences as the Pixies, Radiohead, Pavement, and The Cribs blended with rubbing alcohol and wheatgrass! We played the track and liked it, and thought you might too. You can download more Sir Salvatore from eMusic here.Download Sir Salvatore -
California indie rockers Sir Salvatore describe their sound as 'Pixies, Radiohead, Pavement, and The Cribs blended with rubbing alcohol and wheatgrass'. Now doesn't that sound tasty. A quick listen to the track "Firefllies, Reading Books" from their new Good Luck Charm EP sounds like Gordon Gano standing in for Black Francis.Check it out for yourself:"Fireflies, Reading Books"- MP3Sir
