Supply Drop #1 Trailer from Soundsupply on Vimeo . This morning's aimless web browsing led to the discovery of Soundsupply , a bundle of 10 digital albums available for $15 for a limited time. As fans of previous bundle methods , it's interesting to see this approach applied to music. It's a relatively cheap and painless way to discover something that might have otherwise flown under your radar, or maybe give something a chance you otherwise wouldn't. Of course, Soundsupply would not be as enticing if the albums offered weren't so [...]

South By Southwest will go down on March 9-18 this year—with the music portion happening from the 13th to the 18th—and they've started to roll out the list of performers. As is the case with Coachella 2012 , the line-up is a great one. With plenty of indie acts to get excited about and a few big names sprinkled in, SXSW is looking like a good time to see some of your faves and discover some new acts while you're at it. As CoS points out, Festival Outlook has the full list of confirmed [...]

Name : Night Fruit Location : Boston, USA Genre : Indie-Pop Described In One Sentence : There's a million indie-pop bands out there, but few sound as polished and catchy as Night Fruit. For Fans of : Someone Still Loves You Boris Yeltsin, Broken Social Scene Website : Bandcamp

The last 2011 song is by the Springfield, Missouri bases Someone Still Loves You Boris Yeltsin. They have recently released their forth album. Tape Club documents the story of the band aurally, beginning with lo-fi home recordings (of the type found on their self-recorded debut Broom ) and ending with more polished studio tracks (like those found on the Chris Walla-produced Let It Sway ). For those unfamiliar with Someone Still Loves You Boris Yeltsin, Tape Club serves as an introduction to the evolution of the band's [...]

Well, I always promise myself that I won't do a best of this year, but I end up doing something that looks quite like a best of-list. I listen to A LOT of music in a lot of different genres, and I always find it difficult to range albums from 1-10 or even 1-100, so here are the albums I have enjoyed the most in 2011. Why should there be only one winner, when there are so many great albums and bands out there? There are also lots of other bands that I would love to add here, but [...]

Tweet vaso link Let me be honest: I forgot that The Pains of Being Pure at Heart even released an album in 2011. That means one of two things: I was too busy to give it a proper listen, or that it wasn't particularly memorable when I did listen to it. Really, it's probably some of both. It's not that I don't enjoy their brand shoegaze indie pop, but more that it doesn't resonate with me over the course of [...]

Who knew? Our weekly First Date piece has become quite the popular feature around here. So, we thought we'd indulge in a week of them with a bunch we're eager to share. —Ed. "When I was a kid I was only allowed to listen to Christian music and watch PG rated movies. I remember Ace Ventura: When Nature Calls (rated PG-13) came out on my 13th birthday and I still wasn't allowed to see it. It sucked really bad at the time, but now I think I was kind of [...]
Someone Still Loves You Boris Yeltsin - it's a mouthful, ain't it? Often abbreviated SSLYBY, this band is one that has been making music and performing for over 10 years. Formed in Springfield, Missouri in 1999, Someone Still Loves You Boris Yeltsin consists of John Robert Cardwell, primarily the vocalist, Will Knauer who plays guitar, [...]

Live This Month: December 2011 (Podcast #262) In Live This Month , we sample some of the great local and out-of-town bands performing in the coming month in the San Francisco Bay Area. For a month when few new records are coming out and music journalists spend a lot of time meticulously crafting numerical lists of their favorite albums of the year, there are still a wealth of great live shows hitting the San Francisco area in December. Bands that had big years in 2011 - including Other Lives, Cass McCombs, and [...]

SSLYBY are by far one of my favourite Polyvinyl artists. Resonating from Springfield Missouri, the group started when Philip Dickey and John Robert Cardwell met in 2002 during their freshman year of college. After releasing their own split EP in 2004, they signed to Polyvinyl Records some time later in June 2006. You won't want to miss these guys @ The Biltmore Monday, December 5th ... we know Winnie won't. Enjoy their track, Yellow Missing Sings , from their recent album "Tape Club". Somebody Still [...]

Springfield, Missouri was in the house last night at the Hi-Dive with Ha Ha Tonka and Someone Still Loves You Boris Yelstin. Bloodshot's Ha Ha Tonka are evolving into a more polished act leaving the rough edges behind on their latest album, " Death of a Decade ." But not entirely. The quartet's performance proved to be a raucous occasion with plenty of hand slapping and shit kicking. The infectious grins and serious guitar licks in a set that experienced no lulls. My only qualm, more of a suggestion is maybe they guys [...]

We don't like blowing our own trumpets, especially when we're sober, but this playlist is killer. 18 tracks chosen by the 405 staff, and inspired by the last week of 405 activity. It features the likes of FOE, Los Campesinos! and King Krule. We hope you enjoy it. You can listen to our playlist by clicking here . New Music Chart James Blake - 'Curbside' - ( [...]
Rarities compilations are almost always tricky business. On the one hand, they offer a band the opportunity to show a more adventurous side to themselves that may be lacking on their more polished final efforts. However, they can also contrarily be a mass of middle-of-the-road outtakes that are decent enough but don't really merit shouting about. There is, after all, a reason these songs have remained unreleased. With all that in mind, Tape Club , a collection of b-sides, non-album tracks and studio demos from ridiculously-named Illinois indie-poppers Someone Still Loves You Boris Yeltsin , poses a serious [...]

Washington based The Lonely Forest recently got a chance to tour with Seattle's Minus The Bear . They have also toured with Someone Still Loves You Boris Yeltsin , Margot & The Nuclear So and So's , and of course there's that infamous connection with Death Cab For Cutie . The 4 piece are from Anacortes, not Aberdeen, but have still been influenced by Nirvana . The first act signed to Chris Walla's new label, Trans, we caught up with singer John Van Deusen, and guitarist Tony Ruland, right before [...]
