I found this old demo over at The World Forgot a few weeks back, and have been playing it pretty heavily recently, especially given my recent obsession with all things Julian Casablancas . I absolutely adore Phrazes for the Young , but still prefer my Julian in Strokes form, especially on this absolutely stunning demo the band released on their myspace way way back. This stripped down demo, which mimics "You Only Live Once", reveals the band in their simplest and most vulnerable form. I long for another Strokes album, but until then Julian's new work, [...]
I sometimes forget how awesome this band is/was. I came across this video and was blown away once again. I think two of my friends have seen the band live, and I wish I had seen them but have never had the chance. Maybe they aren't kaput ...

Despite Paul Banks' active promotion of his impressive solo debut, Julian Plenti is...Skyscraper , the fourth Interpol album is still on track for release in early 2010. Drummer Sam Fogarino has even alluded to its close relationship to Interpol's darkly expansive 2002 debut, Turn on the Bright Lights , telling Paste Magazine, "In trying to move forward, there was an unspoken realization that you can't let go of your sonic-defining tag." An intriguing sentiment. While The Strokes argue over whether their new songs veer too far from the band's core sound, Interpol is retreating back [...]
Erik Hassle, the well-coiffed young lad you've heard us rave about in the past, continues his onslaught of terrificness with this, an acoustic cover of the Is This It track "Someday" by The Strokes. Not much else to be said...
Story by Adam Daniels Photography by Dorothy Hong "Do you need a drink?"
"Yes, I need four double whiskeys and four PBRs." It was Miles Benjamin Anthony Robinson's record release show at Williamsburg's Union Pool, and while he was among a roomful of friends, he was not at ease. Robinson's former fiancé obliged the request, assuming it was on behalf of the entire band. This was not the case. Robinson wasn't a household name in indie rock at the time. But he had a lot of the pieces in place [...]

Filed under: Concerts and Tours , News , New Music , Exclusive Strokes frontman Julian Casablancas is currently "camping out" in Los Angeles. As part of his excursion, he's doing a month-long residency of shows, playing every Friday at the Broadway Palace Theater. It turns out there's a lot of history at the venue. "I don't think there's ever been a rock show in that place," Casablancas tells Spinner. "It's where 'Thriller' was filmed and it's just a rad place, to be honest. It feels [...]
Death Cab For Cutie forsangeren Ben Gibbards hyggeprojekt The Postal Service rendte med 2. pladsen, blandt andet foran to [...]
Mmmm mmm mmmmmmmmmm. Merrill Beth Nisker, or as we all know her, Peaches, the foul-mouthed, androgynous, dick, tits, and all, has wowed the Montréal crowd once again at the Métropolis. Sporting capes, donning skin colored skin tight jump suits, and a flashing clit, Peaches is true to her own hype. She fuckin' rocks. With her cock out. For real. I am quite surprised that dildos did not make an appearance throughout the show. At least fake boobies did! Hooorah fake boobies! But first, a lady quite deserving of being a Peaches opener...Amanda Blank! Live [...]

Laarks come from Eau Claire, WI, home to a scene that includes Bon Iver, Megafaun, and Volcano Choir. An Exaltation of Laarks shows a more robust and direct sound than the aforementioned, though their dynamic layering of sound implies a similar mindset. The album is ten tracks of cascading synth and guitar textures held up by stalwart drumming and resulting melody. "Look Out!" is one of many highlights, coming with hooky chugging and chopping movement and a somewhat Strokes-ish [...]

Yesterday Australian pop singer Sia gave her fans a first taster of the sound of her new album, by leaking a track to her twitter followers. "You've changed" will probably rings some bells with you as it was released by Lauren Flax, featuring vocals from Sia, earlier this year. But as Sia herself said, she liked it so much she decided to record her own version for her forthcoming album "We Are Born". The track produced by Greg Kurstin with Nick Valensi from The Strokes on guitar. Enjoy! [...]
NME "Top 100 Albums Of The Decade" list In an exhilarating episode of listmaking as the year wraps up, hyperbole experts NME have compiled a "final, definitive list" of the top 100 Albums Of The Decade, naming The Strokes' 2001 debut album " Is This It ", The Libertines ' " Up The Bracket " and Primal Scream 's " XTRMNTR " in the first, second and third place respectively. Others who made the list include (expectedly) Arctic Monkeys, Radiohead, Arcade Fire, The White [...]

As you know by now, we at NPR Music sent out a series of questions to people in the music, arts and entertainment communities. We wanted to get a sense of people's thoughts and feelings pertaining to the last decade in music, and what their thoughts were about the future. One question we asked was: What is the one song, movement or artist that sums up the decade for you, and why? Our respondents had a variety of answers, from Kanye West to M.I.A. to Beirut. Please add your [...]

Band of Horses , Sea Wolf , BRMC and a few more mainstream acts you'll surely recognize will band together at Avalon this Saturday for the Pablove benefit concert. Everyone should be attending this. BEST ALBUMS OF THE NOUGHTIES The daunting task of putting together something that you know lots of readers won't agree with is never easy, but then we thought you could always go make your own lists. At least we had the balls... So the 50s had rock n roll, the 60s had it's pop and folk, the 70s it's punk, disco and glam, the 80s it's pop, hip hop and hair rock, the 90s it's grunge, brit pop and dance music. It begs the question - what standout genre defines the [...]

Holy shit! SIA just leaked a new track YOU'VE CHANGED which will appear on her new album entitled We Are Born (Spring '10). It's a completely revamped version of the track with Lauren Flax that leaked earlier this year. Produced by Greg Kurstin with Nick Valensi from The Strokes on guitar - this one is my new jam! Do yourself a favor and follow @siamusic on Twitter - she's a delight! Loving the new direction of this album. - Matt [...]

It's November and the end of the decade, so the "Best of a Decade" lists are starting to come in. The first comes from the hype-masters at NME who have named The Strokes ' Is This It? The Libertines ' Up the Bracket and Primal Scream's XTRMNTR as the first, second and third best of the decade. The list was chosen by bands such as Radiohead and Arctic Monkeys, plus record producers and label bosses. [...]
(photo: myspace.com) I avoided reading any review or talk of Strokes front man Julian Casablancas 's solo debut album, Phrazes For the Young, before actually listening to the thing myself. It was a semi-conscious decision, but one guided by premonition nonetheless. Something in my gut told me I wasn't going to be impressed, and looking at reviews wasn't going to help matters any. Almost 10 years after the Strokes ushered in the first musical revolution of the new millennium, all the hype and intrigue Casablancas and co. [...]
