Image courtesy of dogonews.com Oh God, 2012. It's happening. Now the big news story the media has latched onto is that a massive solar storm is approaching Earth. The expected due date? Twenty-fuckin'-twelve. Great, now all you paranoid types are going to keep bringing this up every few months for the next two years. And I'm going to have to endure so many conversations about the end of the world and the stupid Maya calendar. It's going to make me miserable. I couldn't care less about your fucking Maya calendar. It [...]

Click image to download full album Sounds like: Crystal Castles, We Are Scientists "Apache Beat - Another Day (Blood Diamonds Remix)" What's so good? Its been a long time since I've been on a cruise. I remember lots of singing, dancing, music, drinking, and even the occasional limbo contest on the upper deck. Combine all of that with a journey around some of the most exotic locations and I think you have the perfect recipe for a great [...]

WFMU returns for a third time to the Catskills and All Tomorrows Parties! The highly-anticipated three day festival runs from September 3-5th from Kutshers resort in Monticello, New York and our crew will be there recording and presenting some of the weekend's big happenin' deals Sunday from 3-9PM ET . The full weekend lineup, curated this year by filmmaker (and WFMU listener and supporter!) Jim Jarmusch , is here , and let's just say that WFMU's gotten some pretty severe radio lined up. Iggy and the Stooges' full set [...]
Curators of this month's Topman CTRL , Californian rockers We Are Scientists were let loose with a video camera and came up with some rather strange but comedic footage. If you've ever wanted to find out why they never gigged in Alaska or details of the band's property aspirations in Riga, for example, then you're in luck. One of the more eccentric presentations included this Punch & Judy sketch which you won't find on the official site. Enjoy!

Randolph's Leap The former AvsP starlets have posted a free tune up on their Bandcamp page. ' Special ', is a whole lot of twee indie pop fun, these guys (n girl) continue to impress, I can't wait to see what they come up with next. Also, while you're on there, make sure you have a hunt about as there are plenty more freebies to be had. Martin John Henry The former De Rosa front man posted a cover of Tom Waits, 'Rain Dogs' up for free on his twitter account earlier [...]
So I just happened to be randomly checking how much all this year's ACL Pre-shows and Aftershows were going to cost (expensive by the way) and stumbled upon some great news! We Are Scientists will be returning to Austin to perform at Emo's on Oct. 28th. Seeing how we were so freaking busy during SXSW and didn't get to catch them in March, this is definitely a show we won't be missing. Tickets go on sale Saturday, Sept. 11th. [ We Are Scientists Twitter ] [ [...]
A few weeks back, I had the chance to chat with Chris Cain of We Are Scientists about their current world tour, favorite concerts, their new album ('Barbara'), and crazy Vanity Fair photo shoots that may or may not have happened. It was a lot of fun talking with Chris. He has tons of character and passion. His passion is also heavily scene while he is performing live, check out our video concert review: Ep.393 – We Are Scientists @ The Troubadour – West Hollywood, CA – 08/06/10 [...]

A month away from high speed internet will do a lot to a man so while I readjust myself to city living let me drop this round of Digest jams on you. Some of them aren't the most timely but thankfully you understand. Some great tracks in here! Nice to see new freshness from Civil Civic, Young Empires, and The Knocks. Plus Passion Pit cover Smashing Pumpkins? Hot dog! Rock on and drop a thought in the comments! For more jams or by any of these artists use the 'tags' links at the bottom of the [...]
The summer resorts of the Catskill Mountains may no longer attract the hordes of vacationing New Yorkers who were drawn to the Borscht Belt in the early to mid-1900s, but one man has found a unique use for the still-functioning Kutshers Country Club in Monticello. Barry Hogan founded the All Tomorrow's Parties festival after he witnessed Scottish indie rockers Belle & Sebastian successfully bring together an impressive pool of musical talent to play at a Pontin's holiday camp in the south of England in 1999. Fans stayed in chalets, artists played on indoor stages, no corporate sponsorship was allowed, and [...]

In a few days time I will be spending my tenth August Bank Holiday in-a-row in a field watching bands and no doubt the funnest weekend of the year. The first eight of these ten years were spent in Leeds than last year I decided after three years living in the south I would go to Reading, it was hard to admit but it was much better than Leeds and for that the reason I'm going back to the southern leg of festival. After last years main-stage indie fest Festival Republic have gone a bit heavier for [...]
Being the grizzled and respected music critic I am, I have been to literally thousands of shows; rock, pop, country, acoustic and Swedish yodeling. As I was at yet another indie rock show last night, something dawned on me. Goddamn, these people all look familiar. As I scanned over all the shows I've been to, I've realized there are the same people at every show. Not literally the same people, of course, but the same stereotypes of people. And if there's one thing we've learned, it's that stereotypes can unite us all. With that in mind, I [...]

I got back from Pukkelpop late afternoon yesterday and I have to say that it was probably my favourite edition yet. Mostly cause it was spent with lots and lots of friends. Line-up wise I didn't find it to be THAT impressive, as the bands I wanted to see I'd already seen earlier in the year. Anyways, me and Gisèle didn't get there till about 2PM due to transport issues and us not being in much of a hurry. That's why we missed Chapel Club, We Are Scientists and Bear In Heaven. First act on our [...]
