Death Cab For Cutie forsangeren Ben Gibbards hyggeprojekt The Postal Service rendte med 2. pladsen, blandt andet foran to [...]

Qualche sorpresa.

The Strokes top NME's album of the decade list

Good Fortune - PJ Harvey
Music brag NME has crowned The Strokes' debut album 'This is It' as the best album of the decade. As the naughties come to a close NME (and a long list of music experts) voted for what they thought are the best 100 albums of the decade. With the concluding list spanning artists from Jay-Z to Johnny Cash and a few unexpected ones in between. The New York rockers beat off the likes of Primal Scream's 'XTRMNR' and 'Up The Bracket' by The Libertines to take the holy grail. Mike Skinner must be [...]

The Strokes top NME album of the decade list

The Strokes top NME album of the decade list Music brag NME has crowned The Strokes' debut album 'This is It' as the best album of the decade. If that isn't enough encouragement for the boys to get cracking with their next album release then I don't know what is. As the naughties come to a close NME (and a long list of music experts) voted for what they thought are the best 100 albums of the decade. With the concluding list spanning artists from Jay-Z to Johnny Cash and a few unexpected ones in between. The New York rockers beat off the [...]

The Idolator Interview: Annie

The Idolator Interview: Annie In 2004, Annie—Bergen, Norway's sunniest export—scored both club hits and indie cred with her debut album Anniemal . Her sophomore LP Don't Stop was initially announced in early 2008, but got tangled up, as she explains it, in a nasty case of record label drama. "I kept on delivering things but it was never enough," says the singer. Fast forward a year-and-a-half later, and Don't Stop has finally arrived on these shores, thanks to Oslo-based label Smalltown Supersound. Idolator met up with 31-year-old Annie (real name: Anne Lilia Berge Strand) in Los Angeles [...]

Hey, NME: Is That It?

Hey, NME: Is That It? Here's the weird thing about the British: In general, they have much better taste in music than Americans. While we waste our time on interchangeable pop stars, they're singing the praises of Gossip's Beth Ditto. But their likes and dislikes are very particular - and, in general, they seem to love the kinds of semi-mainstream/semi-indie bands that become one-hit wonders or just never make a huge splash in the U.S. and then fairly quickly fall out of favor with the music-geek set. For example: NME has just named its #1 album of the '00s... and it's [...]

The Strokes:

Pitchfork may have usurped everyone with their best-of-the-decade list, but the floodgates are open now and many other publications are printing their nominations. Today (Nov. 17), the NME has produced a list of the albums they consider to be the best of the decade, and there are very few surprises. The paper was one of the earliest champions of the Strokes when they emerged at the beginning of the decade, and Is This It is their predictable number 1 choice. The list is male dominated and indie-centric—Jay Z's The Blueprint [...]

List: NME's Top 50 Albums of the 00s

List: NME's Top 50 Albums of the 00s Yet another list from a UK Music Magazine. NME always prided itself on being the cool UK Magazine, well since it changed its name from New Musical Express , and since Melody Maker disappeared along with Cliff Richard's shadows. So what's their list of the Best albums of the decade like? Keep reading. 50. MIA - Arular 49. Muse - Absolution 48. Walkmen - Bows and Arrows 47. Brendan Benson - Lapalco 46. Delgados - The Great Eastern This list starts so much better than many others. It's great to [...]

Crank Up My Les Paul In Your Face

Crank Up My Les Paul In Your Face Drums Play Spaceland Monday Night (and It's Free) Ray Davies put on a fantastic show on Saturday night at the Orpheum. If you get a chance to see him on this tour do not hesitate. More on that later. Another great week this week. Some of those will be good, but I'm recommending a variety of [...]

ODi -Maslow's Songbook [Album Review]

ODi-You Can't Have It All
Maslow's Songbook is a really good album that has been a joy to listen to. It contains 12 songs of which there are some really great tunes. Standout tracks include 'Leaving My Love in New York', 'Red Light', 'Something Beautiful' and the sample mp3 'Mariposa'. Sample Mp3; Mariposa I suppose some of the best albums are difficult to categorise and it's the same with ODi's debut. There's a real 'Bic Runga' pop vibe from the album. Many of the tracks are perfect for the montage scenes in Romantic Comedy movies. ODi's [...]

Comme un dimanche matin...

The Fitzcarraldo Sessions with Moriarty
Bonjour ! Ils donnent ainsi naissance à Hope Sandoval & The Warm Inventions. Si ce [...]

Robots In Heat

Robots In Heat San Francisco's Robots In Heat just blessed the world with a new mix of deep & funky prog, folk and cosmic jams. As I write this I'm on my third listen and I can only identify "that one thing DJ Shadow sampled that one time". Feel free to leave comments if you can come any closer with track IDs - I'd love to know what half of this stuff is. The sequencing of this mix is top notch too. RIH clearly worked hard to string these grooves together into a cohesive package, complete with smooth, seamless transitions. This ranks with [...]

End Of Decade Survey, Part I

By Carrie Brownstein Last week, the NPR Music team, including myself, sent out a series of questions to people in the music, arts and entertainment communities. We wanted to get a sense of people's thoughts and feelings pertaining to the last decade in music, and what their thoughts were about the future. We'll roll out the questions and a sampling of the answers over the next two weeks. And, of course, we encourage you to answer these questions yourselves in the comments section below. [...]
