Kirk Degiorgio's name is not synonymous with minimal techno. Over the course of his 18-year career you could count on your hands the number of releases that would even qualify as club-approved tackle. Degiorgio made his name with multi-hued Detroit-inspired techno and went on to produce soulful music in a variety of genres, but rarely touched on straightforward dance floor-ready tracks. Today we see Degiorgio taking a new path that embraces this side of techno, both in terms of production and DJing. Degiorgio rebooted his Applied Rhythm Technology (ART) label this year and is focused on creating full sounding techno [...]
Amber Rubarth, a singer/songwriter whose beautiful music is getting worldwide attention, just got back from a US tour with Joshua Radin and Gary Jules. We got a chance to catch up with her and learn about the tour, her life as a independent artist, and what inspired her to pick up a guitar for the first time at the age of 20 and pursue a career in music. IM: Hey Amber, welcome back from the tour! How was it? AR: The tour was AMAZING!!!! Truly fantastic. I was [...]
nuggetsofthefuture : Swervedriver - Sandblasted This wasn't quite the first thing I heard by Swervedriver—I'd caught "Son Of Mustang Ford" and "Pile-Up" on the local college radio station—but the "Sandblasted" video did a great job of contextualizing Swervedriver for me. It clearly presented all of the themes that would dominate their aesthetic: muscle cars, long hair, beaches, driving, noisy guitars, and a vague sense of loneliness and melancholy that they were never able to escape, no matter how fast they drove. They may hide their sadness behind the rock trappings [...]

The band was fronted by Ted Leo and featured Adam Goren of Atom and His Package as well as Andy of Paint It Black members of Franklin . The set featured Leo in full Misfits-era Danzig get-up and featured a cover of the Danzig classic "Mother." Thanks to Pitchfork for finding the video. Click Read More for the video.

We are excited this morning to bring you the second edition of our newest weekly feature. For those of you who missed our inaugural edition with Danny Balis last week , in these weekly posts we are calling The Guestlist , we are inviting local musicians (and the occasional national act) to come up with a clever category and then to tell us about their top 5 songs in said category, hence the clever title. This week's Guestlist comes from The O's guitar/bass drum/vocalist/hell-raiser Taylor Young. Their fantastic debut album "We Are the O's" released back [...]
The bass which you are about to hear is an account of the tragedy which befell a group of five youths, in particular Sally Harvester and her invalid brother Franklin. It is all the more tragic because they were so young. But had they lived very, very long lives they could not have expected nor would they have wished to see as much of the mad macabre as they were to see that evening. The events of that night were to lead to the discovery of one of the most bizarre crimes in the annals of London's history. [...]
CMJ released the band schedule for its 2009 Music Marathon & Film Festival yesterday, which is about as good a sign of fall hitting New York as the return of apple cider at Greenmarket. The festival runs from Oct. 20 - Oct. 24 and includes various venues throughout the city, and the list of featured artists would probably take all four days to read through. But skimming the selection reveals a fairly equal distribution of well-known acts like Atlas Sound and Deer Tick , anonymous locals (including krautrock-y Jeff Buckley-channelers Pocketknife), twenty-two bands who [...]

The press release below doesn't actually list all the acts performing at CMJ this year, so you're probably better off checking out cmj.sched.org to get a true idea of what's happening during this year's marathon. Of course, sched.org is a little confusing too and it doesn't list unofficial events and day parties (as far as I know), so you'll have to wait a little bit longer for info to trickle out from the blogs and other unofficial sources. Lastly, even though the press release says the schedule is "final", you can pretty much bet that things will shift [...]

New Yorker Festival The "early" yet official 2009 New Yorker Festival schedule was released today and while there a lot of familiar faces (as always), I think this year's lineup is a lot stronger than last year's . Highlights of this year's festival include: Mad Men panel with Matthew Weiner, Lee Clow, Steve Stoute , Brooklyn Playlist concert at The Bell House with Dirty Projectors , Music and Conversation with and Neko Case and Justin Vernon (Bon Iver) , [...]

Image From Here If you don't know Adam Franklin, then you should. Franklin was born in Essex, England and is most well known as the frontman/guitarist for one of the best 90's Shoegaze bands - Swervedriver. Along with his more recent solo work, he has also been a part of Toshack Highway and Magnetic Morning. Regarding his solo career, his debut release was Bolts Of Melody released in 2007. Bolts had Franklin returning to his Swervedriver roots and was full of the trademark sprawling, guitar heavy sound. A great album and [...]

As always, there's an eight-hour pile of tracks for you today. Here's how it breaks down: - Six songs get repeated in that eight hours, so it's four hours between plays for those six songs. They're the ones in " The Grinder ", in case you're wondering what I mean by that when I say it on the FM Showcase (which, by the way, is on 90.5 The Night tonight at 10pm .) - The rest of the songs are set up so [...]
