Continuing on this week's wave of Nilsson (OH MY GOD IT WAS NILSSON WEEK !), here is a recording of one of my favorite artists covering one of his signature songs, produced by one of my favorite producers for another of my favorite movies AND a song by that producer, who also scored the movie. Prepare yourself. Super producer/genius Jon Brion is probably going to work with Of Montreal on their Skeletal Lamping follow-up. This came to the music world's attention via the band's twitter page where the following message was posted: Just had a rad meeting with sir jon brion.looks like were gonna work together on the new album! Dreams do come true:•) I feel like someone just dunked my head in cold water and if this goes down, I'm going to lose it. I love Jon Brion [...]

Of Montreal and Jon Brion are a match made in heaven, apparently: according to the band's Twitter , they "Just had a rad meeting with sir jon brion.looks like were gonna work together on the new album! Dreams do come true:•)." Kevin Shield's penchant for body paint and riding horses onstage meshes perfectly with Brion's production style. The musician/producer, who has written the scores for a variety of soundtracks (including those for Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind , I Heart Huckabees , and Synecdoche, New York ) in addition to producing albums [...]

i am the heart that you call home aimee mann w/ the decemberists // engine driver (live) & i've written pages upon pages trying to rid you from my bones _
Today's Digging Deeper featured two songs, "American Man" and "Let Freedom Ring," by Chuck Prophet. A native Californian, Prophet got his start in the 80s band Green on Red, but in the decades since then, he has established himself in other circles. He's done guitar work for artists as diverse as Aimee Mann and Cake, released his own solo material, and performed on Letterman and Last Call with
Photo by Joelle Wagner Like the title says, Aimee Mann has returned to Largo once again for her annual Christmas shows! She will be bringing the holiday sounds from her most recent Christmas album, One More Drifter In The Snow....
The Engine Driver est une chanson de The Decemberists qu'on peut écouter sur l'album Picaresque. Je vous propose une reprise de cette chanson interprétée par Aimee Man. A comparer avec la version solo de Colin Meloy.

Want a free Aimee Mann mp3? Of course you do. Visit her digital store to download "The Engine Driver," backed by members of the Decemberists. (Or download it below.) Given that it is a store, for-purchase tunes are also available; all of them are in mp3 or lossless FLAC formats, with a lower-quality mp3 available [...]

This is my favorite picture of Falcon Heene, mainly because it's one of the few where he looks like he has an idea of what a freakin' creep his father is. Anyway, amid the sheriff's press conferences implying the family's too poor to fine, youtube spoofs and the Halloween costumes , Huffington Post columnist David Wild has come up with something NHT can sink its teeth into: a balloon boy playlist . If & when NHT has the track we'll slip it in there. Suggestions welcome! In a week we'll revisit and maybe get the whole thing in [...]
The daily mix: 1) Heather Nova: "I'm the Girl" 2) Ian Gomm: "Little Lost Now" 3) The Blacks: "I'd Like to Say" 4) Jay Farrar: "Damn Shame" 5) Peter Bruntnell: "Perfume River" 6) Aimee Mann: "Thirty-one Today" 7) Rickie Lee Jones: "Altar Boy" 8) Syd Straw: "Think Too Hard" 9) Beth Orton: "Shopping Trolley" 10) Teddy Thompson: "Bon Jovi Said"

Ok, technically, this album was released in December of 1999, but that's close enough. This is Aimee Mann's finest moment, thus far, in her career. Her world weary voice totally fits the mood of Magnolia and the songs are beautifully written. In addition, uber-producer Jon Brion does the score and produces Mann's tunes. A perfect soundtrack for pre-millenial dread.

What a rainy, lazy week of non-blogging. We'll post about the three hundred bands we saw this week sometime soon. Until then, here's the much more interesting weekend thingie.Tonight, listen up for Restavrant on Demolisten. Then head out to Aimee Mann and Fountains of Wayne at The Wiltern.
