Hailing from the ever awesome Denver, CO, The Apples In Stereo deliver a revived and zesty sound that today's pop music longs for. "The Bird That You Can't See" leads off with a p-funk flavored strut (think Parliament's " Flash Light ") and transitions into a ripped-jeans-rock of a chorus that beckons for crowd participation. [mp3] The Dig: "Two Sisters" We've been following this excellent group for almost a year now, and we're glad to offer a brand new mp3 from The Dig's upcoming LP that they just finished recording with Bryce Goggin (Pavement, Sean Lennon, Apples in Stereo, Sebadoh). The new song "Two Sisters" shows the promise of the band's upcoming recorded output, which had been a question mark, as the band had been steadily touring behind only a three song EP. Yet, their live show and quality of their music on stage is [...]
Robert Schneider of the Apples in Stereo always has a lot going on. Whether it's his children's music alter ego Robbert Bobbert, co-running Garden Gate Records or just playing with old friends, he's always got something to keep himself (and his fans) occupied. Now his latest creation is finally finished; you can pick up Thee [...]

Robert Schneider and the Apples In Stereo are a cartoon-y band. They play wonderful, sugary, sunshine-glazed power pop better than anybody. In 2000, the group recorded a song for the Powerpuff Girls cartoon called "Signal In The Sky (Let's Go!)." Now they are lending their sonic sweetness to Yo Gabba Gabba!, an indie-rock-friendly Nick Jr. [...]
by chuck bell Most people have probably never heard of Christie Front Drive . They existed for less than 3 years, and did not even release a proper full-length while together. However, despite the fact that the band never even came close to approaching the mainstream, they managed to heavily influence several bands that have sold millions of records. Having been equally influenced by the post-hardcore angularity of Jawbox and the melodic alternative of Buffalo Tom, Denver natives Ron Marschall (drums), Jason Begin (guitar/vocals), Eric Richter (guitar/vocals), [...]

Deastro , a.k.a., Randy Chabot, released Moondagger in June and it has been haunting my car stereo for months now. It's 14 tracks are still mesmerizing me, along with the various remixes and releases I've collected since then by this prolific artist. I've said it before and I'll continue to say it, the single most intriguing element of Deastro's music is the variety of sounds that he incorporates into a unified whole of incredible fantasy. As one London review noted, he has the "epic swagger of U2, the intimacy of Badly Drawn Boy, the bleepedy bleepness of Aphex Twin." [...]

[Sorry this is a little late today — tech problems in Buzz Bands land ...] Brooklyn three-piece the Antlers , riding a wave of critical love from Pitchfork (among others) for their album "Hospice," are about to embark on a big tour supporting Minus the Bear (including a Tuesday date at the Glass House in Pomona). First, though, they headline the Bootleg Theater tonight — advance tickets are sold out, but there will be a few available at the door starting at 8 p.m. The lovely [...]

His and Her Vanities: The Mighty Lunge Madison, WI quartet, His and Her Vanities release their third album, The Mighty Lunge via the Science of Sound record label. Generally Science of Sound's bands are artsy rock bands, but His and Her Vanities break the mold. Their variety of raw, energetic pop is reminiscent of bands like the Pixies or the Apples in Stereo . The giddiness of the band can be explained by the band's core, married couple Ricky and Terrin Riemer. Married bands like Mates of State and [...]

Like for one, it's coming out pretty soon! Teen Dream is slated for a January 26 release on Sup Pop to be exact. And secondly, the album will b epackaged with a companion DVD that has a video for every track on the album, each by a different director. Maybe the one we made up in our head to "Apple Orchard" about the cute girl we always walking her dog at the park and us falling asleep on a blanket and waking up in a delightful meadow pickign apples and skipping will be a bonus cut. It could [...]

The Elephants: Take It! I wasn't too impressed by their debut album back in 2007 for its multiplicity of pop influences and lack of a distinct focus but their second album could be by a different band. Denmark's The Elephants have produced an album that is upbeat but reflective (the death of their bass player in 2008 might have something to do with that), full of little melodies and elegant, understated pop moments. 'Turtle [...]

The Hush Now: Constellations The indie rock quintet from Boston, MA known as The Hush Now self-release their sophomore album, Constellations . The album is a mixture of driving rhythms, fluffy pop, and jangly guitars. Like most good Bostonian bands, The Hush Now try to learn from some of the cities best bands. They've got the rhythm of the Modern Lovers , the indie rock sensibility of the Pixies , and fortunately nothing of Aerosmith . But despite the band's good qualities, Constellations feels like it never quite comes together. [...]
"That's My Family" is, I think, the first new Apples in Stereo single in a while, but that comes with a caveat; it's for an animated segment on Yo Gabba Gabba! about families. It's very similar to a song we used to have to sing in Spanish class when I was in middle school, so part of me really dug this. [ You Ain't No Picasso ]
Apples In Stereo provide the music for That's My Family on Yo Gabba Gabba . Lucy and I used to watch YGG a lot, but now she's really into Phineas & Ferb (Which has great music too...just not so indie.) ------------------------------ -------------------------- Official Site | MySpace | More MP3s | eMusic | [...]
While I've never seen an episode of it, all my Youtubing has indicated that Yo Gabba Gabba is doing a wonderful job introducing kids to music. They've had MGMT, Of Montreal and a ton of other great groups on there. Now they can add The Apples in Stereo to that list, now that they had [...]
