In the past month there have been some really great covers emerge. Phoenix doing Bob Dylan is as good as anything on Wolfgang Amadeus Phoenix, Jay Reatard's death brought an old cover out back to prominence, Major Lazer have added a whole new depth to a Beyonce track and lo fi indie rockers Little Girls have a stunning take on a new Beach House track. Enjoy these and please feel free to link to your favorite covers in the comments. Major Lazer - HALO (Beyonce Cover) Solange Knowles - Stillness [...]
I felt guilty making a post with no music, so here's a Saint Etienne track that should make you put you in a good Tuesday mood, whatever that is. I found out about this band through a remix that Air France did, and this one stands well on it's own too. Saint Etienne - "Been So Long" ( Good Humor , 1998) Related posts: St. Etienne - "Spring" (Air France remix) Everyone and their mother is posting this track, but it's... [...]

Just happened to come across this album by Yeasayer which just "dropped" today in music stores/ iTunes . Its going to be one of those bands that is getting alot of buzz these days. I will never see live in concert during my lifetime and skip Ottawa. Please bear with me since I don't know that much of this band. Did some research on them on Wikipedia . That Odd Blood is their second album. That the band is from Brooklyn, New York and that their music has been [...]

This just popped up on the calendar: next Tuesday, February 16, Atlas Sound will be performing at Holocene. The solo-ish project of Deerhunter's Bradford Cox, it appears to be the only show on the horizon for Atlas Sound, which leads me to suspect that Cox (who's no stranger to the Portland music scene, naming Privacy's Songs [Marriage Records] his favorite album of 2009) just hanging out in Portland for a while and quickly decided to throw together a show while he's here. At any rate, a nice surprise this morning; White Rainbow opens. [...]
Spain's Buffetlibre DJs are busy guys, when not DJing, reMixing, producing and spearheading some of the more interesting multi-artist projects around are throwing their weight behind Amnesty International to highlight human rights abuses around the world. To highlight the worldwide injustices that AA work so hard to stop Buffetlibre's unique concept for their charity compilation album is to create a 'musical atlas' featuring many and varied artists from around the globe. Such as the first 'single' from the album. 'Mike' by Ivri Lider , one of Israel's most successful singer/songwriters, with this [...]
Blah blah here's some new albums. Nothing really stands out to me and I'm too tired to make snarky comments on how the new Sade album will probably make me more tired than I already am right now. Peace. :: Allison Moorer , Crows (Rykodisc) :: AM , Future Sons & Daughters (Filter) :: Angelo Spencer , Et Les Hauts Sommets (K) :: Animal Liberation Orchestra , Man of the World (Brushfire) :: [...]
The Buffetlibre duo have come up with an impressively unique concept for their PEACE compilation album that is due for release on 1st March - creating a musical atlas of the world with songs from each and every corner (or at least from more than 50 countries). These aren't just unknown artists either, they've got Voxtrot from the USA, Official Secrets Act from the UK, The Hidden Cameras form Canada, The Toxic Avenger form France plus many other less recognisable but no less impressive acts from Lebanon to [...]
Our friend Marc from Buffetlibre ( http://www.buffetlibredjs.net ), Barcelona just got in contact with us regarding their new project called PEACE , in collaboration with Amnesty International that will be released digitally on March 1, 2010 and one which we will be a media collaborator. All proceeds from the sale of the compilation will go to Amnesty International's campaigns on human rights. Although we are primarily an electronic music blog and this isn't, we still can't say no to giving a helping hand. [...]
Sasquatch is doing something a little different for the 2010 festival. They'll be announcing the festival's eagerly anticipated line-up at a free live show next Monday (February 15th) at the Crocodile. The evening will feature three bands we'd be thrilled to see at Sasquatch itself: the summer sounds of Surfer Blood, the epic experimentation of [...]
February 8, 2010 is the day that Massive Attack releases their fifth studio album. Its been seven (wow that long) years since their last effort 100th Window. Somehow I wasn't really impress with 100th Window besides Special Cases which featured Sinead O'Connor. Massive Attack has been the pioneer in Trip-hop. From their mellow R&B/trip-hop sounds from Blue Lines and Protection to the dark electronica sound of Mezzanine. They have been changing and becoming innovative with their sound. Contrary to some reports that this album was going backwards ala Mezzanine era. A part of [...]

Sasquatch! , the three-day music festival that will bring Pavement and lots of other indie bands ( + Jack Johnson? ) to George, WA over Memorial Day Weekend, will announced the rest of its 2010 bill at a launch party next Monday, February 15th at the Crocodile in Seattle. Accompanying the much anticipated announcement will be performances by Atlas Sound, Surfer Blood, and Seattle outfit Fresh Espresso, all of who will probably end up appearing on this year's lineup by the time the evening's over. Per Ear Candy , tickets for the event are free and can [...]

Just saw this on the Crocodile 's facebook page. Sounds pretty cool and it looks like you can pick up free passes at both Easy Street locations. Or by listening to The End; which...why would you do that, again? The 2009 records from both Atlas Sound (about who I'm genuinely surprised at his inclusion here) and Fresh Espresso made my Favorites lists of last year. They good. More recently, I've been pleasantly pleased with Surfer Blood 's Astro Coast. It's high-energy Floridian power-rock with brit-pop and pop-punk tendencies that recalls both Weezer [...]

Link: http://stereogum.com/archives/ photo/atlas_soundmemory_tapes_ bell_house_brooklyn_2310_11279 1.html Bradford Cox of the hit bands 'Atlas Sound' and 'The Deerhunter, alone in the forest' played what seems to be an acoustic set. In order to move away from the traditional 'acoustic guitar bro' vibe, you can see that he utilized a 'sick pedal board', loaded with tons of crazy effects. In an effort to further differentiate his on-stage brand, he wore a sillie winter hat. Wearing a harmonica also makes him seem like a 'conceptual Bob Dylan.' [...]

Seeing Neon Indian play with Atlas Sound at NYU's E&L Auditorium on Thursday night was like going to two completely different shows back-to-back. Although, on record, the two bands produce similar sounds—both characterized by a fuzzy, lo-fi hazy vibe—the groups chose to take those vibes in completely different directions on stage. Where Bradford Cox stripped down Atlas Sound's instrumentation even further, Neon Indian ramped up the intensity and put on a dance party. It was an odd juxtaposition, to say the least, but it was a juxtaposition that worked. As [...]

With the news that Def Jux , home to Aesop Rock, Cage, El-P, Rob Sonic, Cannibal Ox, Mr. Lif and more is winding down as a traditional label, The Crypt posted a 62 tune 350MB mixtape by Vega of Def Jux tunes to mark the occasion. Tracklisting after the jump. Atlas Sound, Neon Indian, and Sisters at NYU Kimmel Center (February 4, 2010).
Atlas Sound and Neon Indian played at sold out show at NYU's Skirball Center last night. Check out some awesome photos thanks to Sam Teich. Also, NYCTaper recorded Atlas Sound's set at the Bell House from Wednesday night. Check that out here and enjoy the photos below: Photos Copyright Sam Teich ...

Having recently played his first live shows as Memory Tapes, Philadelphia's Dayve Hawk joined a seated, strumming Bradford Cox at the Bell House Wednesday night. It was a sell-out, which shouldn't surprise anybody; Brooklyn hipsters love Cox. We sent Natasha Ryan to take some shots, which are here for you to click through because of how much you love photos. Enjoy 'em.
